Do you e-mail the teacher after and let them know why?

I just napped through my classes as my alarm didn't go off (set it to AM instead of PM). This teacher is supposed to be writing me a rec, if she didn't send it out already so I'm not sure what I am supposed to say to her since I couldn't e-mail her before hand.

Most of my classes have some kind of policy that you won’t be penalized for missing 1 or 2 classes. So no, I wouldn’t say anything about it. You know your situation best, so it’s up to you to decide. That said, make up an excuse. Do NOT say you slept through class.

irishrabbit,
my classes do too. I believe for this class, there’s a 3-absent penalty rule. My first absence I was truly truly sick and e-mailed her hours before class and she understood and didn’t count it towards me.

This would be my first time sleeping through class. I’m not sure what a good excuse would be, as I’m sure it’d be something that I could not email her before class?

How many people are in this class? I’m not convinced you need to say anything.

It’s a small class since I go to a private college - probably about 15 or so students? She’s writing me a rec so I just thought it’d be the polite thing to do or so that I don’t look bad.

Nope, pretty sure my teachers don’t care. Besides, I make it a policy to only skip each class a maximum of one time. So, there’s not really a need to.

I only email them beforehand if they take attendance.

I email after to apologize. Especially since I go to a small school like yourself, they’re taking the time to teach me, I should show up. So I apologize for missing.

Just mention it when you see her (or in an email to set up a meeting, or something).
