Music kinda distracts me, but then I start to get really bored so I turn it on to actually keep me on task. And then I start listening to the words rather than listening to me if I'm reading aloud or when studying. So I turn it off..and then I get distracted again and I can't study.

The best music that helps me study without distracting me is soft music with no words. That way I stay on task but there are no upbeats or words to get me more interested in dancing than in studying.

How about you?

My mom says I shouldn't study with music cuz I won't remember anything or something like that..but you know, there's that idea that if you listen to soft, classical music during tests, you do better. My English teacher did that during our exam; the music was reeeaaally low though. Like if you eat peppermints before a test, you are more apt to peform better.

Not really -- it's easier for me to study without any noise. Classical music, if it's really soft, isn't bad. My Bio teacher had that on during a test once, but if the music has lyrics then it gets distracting.

Ironically, I'll have the TV on sometimes, but that's only if there's something I really want to watch, and then I'll just fit in some studying when I can (i.e., during commercials and whatever).

I tune in to KIISFM whenever I'm nodding off, and then I start to get all hyper and dance-y. I can usually concentrate though.. but there are some exceptions when I suddenly need pure and total pindrop silence to concentrate. LOL. and I get ****ed off if people start talking, etc. Maybe it depends on mood for me

When I study, I usually have on music... with words... I shouldn't but I do, sadly... and its like Linkin' Park too so its very loud and energetic, it actually helps you study if you're really tired.

nowadays i find that during hw and stuff like that, music only distracts me. i mainly only listen to music in the car or when i'm not doing anything. but i do agree with the thing about music w/o words. jazz really seems to work for me.

I've lived in cities all my life (St. Petersburg, NYC) so silence freaks me out, so I need music. Usually just Russian rock played quietly. I don't even realize it's playing but the sound puts me in the right state of mind.

Music does distract me a little, but not as much as my brother does. He has an exceptionally loud speaking voice, so I occasionally turn on my CD player (with headphones, of course) to drown him out!

If I'm studying in loud situations, like on the schoolbus before the enormous history test I just aced, I blast the loudest music possible through my iPod. I'd rather study to Midtown than idiots.

When I study, I absolutely need noise around me. Maybe it comes from being an only child all my life, but I just hate things to be quiet all the time. I can't even fall asleep if is silent - there always has to be some sort of noise to sort of "comfort" me.

If words in music are your problem, you may what to try to find different kinds of instrumental music to use. Movie soundtracks (movie scores, more precisely) are actually a great way to do this - most of them are lyricless, but still upbeat and energetic. :)

Music is great during studying. Classical is kinda the best, because it doesnt get your mind off track... But i can listen to lyrics. I eventually get so absorbed in studying that i stop paying attention.
