when?

I remember reading somewhere that CMU notifies applicants in late February. Am I making this up (hahahahah--gotta love the wishful thinking)?

If I am, any idea when we hear?

I hear that traditionally the decisions are sent out around mid to late March, so I think we have some waiting to do. Although I wish it was as soon as you thought, haha

It will most certainly NOT be mid March!

Late March with 2-3 waves of releases followed by dribbles.

There is absolutely no association between release dates and your decision-- they seem to roll out by region, which suggests that different adcoms are releasing a few hundred/thousand at a time.

And for no known reason, anecdotes show that some people get stuck in cyberspace and they wait and suffer until early April until they call and someone says - oh – we’re sorry, that should have been sent!

I’d guess March 25-28.
It arrives in the mail first and three days later online.

Other anecdotes suggest occasional cyber glitches - meaning–you might login at 2 am and get lucky to see the decision that someone forgot to cover while setting some parameters-- it shows for a few minutes and then it’s hidden again until the official release date.
Please don’t stay up all night waiting for the great admission pumpkin on your screen.

If you don’t hear by March 29/30-- it is fair to call admissions and ask.

100% guarantee no one will hear any sooner than March 22

The website says March 15th to April 15th…so no hope for March 15th? :frowning: haha

It hasn’t happened that way for years…

Nope-- no way March 15-- !
And there was yet another record year of applicants- so they are likely swamped again.

And unfortunately it can linger into early April. These files would be those that were incomplete and set aside. Mostly delays for financial aid judging from the anecdotes last year.

Be thankful- -many schools stick to April 1 - -so at least you can be fairly certain it will arrive in the mail before then.

The admitted student weekend schedule is already up-- see my other thread NTIE NTIA with links.

When I submitted my CSS Profile, I noticed that there was a section that said when college decisions were supposed to come out for each of the colleges I sent the profile to.

For Carnegie Mellon, I remember reading March 25.

Word.

Mom2012and2014 - I don’t see the info about admitted student weekend? I followed the links you gave in the other thread, and while I clicked on a whole lot of stuff - I couldn’t seem to find admitted student weekend info. Can you please give me a hint? :-)

It was up when I posted the link a few weeks ago.

[Visit Us - Now That I’m Admitted](http://www.cmu.edu/ntia/visit.htm)

It will be throughout April with the exception of nothing Spring Carnival Weekend Th, F, S and S April 15-17.

Otherwise, there’s something going on daily and overnights occur on the weekend into Mondays with a student host.

Same drill every year.

If you attended diversity weekend - URM, you’ll even be offered a plane ticket to campus if you want to come visit again. (well that was what they’ve done the past few years - who knows how the economy is holding up this year)

Oh please.

I wish all schools had early action

mom2012and2014 when I go to your link it just says “Check back towards the end of March to see a full listing of April programs and to plan your visit.” – it doesn’t seem to have any info about dates and program options.

Mathmom

It will be up again-- it was working and then it went blank. Guessing they are tweaking and resetting everything for class of 2015. The site recycles every year. They’ll likely have it up again within another week or so…a few days before decisions go live.

If you are looking to plan a trip-- any weekend other than spring carnival. There are admissions events every day as well – there will be a detailed package sent and the site will show everything as soon as it’s up (again). The busy day appears to be Mondays-- with an opportunity to stay over with a host student on Sunday night.

Do you know if there are overnights possible that aren’t a Sunday/Monday thing? Our most likely time to visit would be during S’s April break April 11-15, so 10/11 would be ideal for an overnight, but wondering if he could do one midweek also possibly? We don’t yet know which schools’ schedules we’ll be juggling, of course, which makes it more challenging to make any plans  I don’t really want to just do the tour and presentation type of visit at this point. I’d like S to spend time meeting students, sitting in on a few classes, etc.

Are there any particular departments he’s interested in? My department used to give individual tours to people interested in majoring in our field. I usually took people on tours through various labs, showed all of our facilities, the typical classrooms you’d use, and the actual buildings our department was located in.

I could swear I also hosted a sleeping bagger over a weeknight, but I really can’t say for sure since it was years ago.

He applied to the School of Computer Science and to Biological Sciences in the Mellon College of Science. That’s a good idea to focus on tours of the relevant department(s). I guess we’ll wait and see when the visit website is refreshed, what the overnight options are.

Thanks!

My question, like the title of the thread, is when. When?

Their website says “March 15 - April 15”, has anybody ever received its decision on the fifteenth?

Does anybody know when transfer acceptance packages are being mailed out?
I deferred a year, so I know I’m going to get it, I’m just not sure where I should have them mail it, as I will be in Germany until May.

I read somewhere that packages should be received before April 1, for freshman applicants.

On the Carnegie Mellon Facebook an admission officer posted this yesterday(3/15):

we’ll begin mailing admission decision towards the end of next week. You will be able to see your decision online 4 days after we mail the letter.
