Does anyone know, will financial aid packages come out with admission decisions, or will it be another week or so for that? (Many of the earlier-announcing schools sent out financial aid package info a week or so after admission decisions. But with these later schools, I’m really hoping we’ll get all the info at once.)

You will see both the financial aid and admissions decision. They arrive in the same envelope and 3 days later they are online.

A few rare exceptions – the package isn’t there. These seem isolated to students with incomplete / missing information- including non-custodial parent info, tax forms etc. This year they are using the CSS Profile and IDOC verification- so I’m expect some reasonable amount of errors for both freshman and continuing students.

Well, I think this is rather archaic.

Some places like traditions.

They probably just want the admissions packet to seem more special. It probably has way more than just a letter saying that you are accepted, which is all you would find online.

So is there like an official date yet?

I don’t think there is an official date. They’ll start mailing the decisions by the end of next week.

Which means we will probably receive it sometime between the 3/29 - 4/1 depending on how long it takes to arrive.

From their Facebook group today (3/21): [Carnegie Mellon Office of Admission | Facebook](Carnegie Mellon Office of Admission)

^Again with the vague words “later this week”. ):

Darn. That probably means we won’t actually get a decision until next week they told me the end of the week on Friday :(

that probably means Thursday or Friday, that means I could get my decision on saturday here in new york possibly.

My dad called the admissions office and he told me that he was notified that the decisions will be sent on thursday, march 24th !

When will the decisions be posted online, Monday?

Yes, Monday! According to the Facebook page, at the very least.

Well, the ‘Application and Viewbook’ they sent me on 30th Jan hasn’t reached me yet. I didn’t sign up for express delivery, so I doubt I’ll get my letter before it appears online. The express delivery sign-up form I received said 7 days for delivery, so I thought it wasn’t worth it.

But seriously - why can’t they put it online the next day or so, instead of four days later?

Carnegie Mellon’s tradition is to provide a wonderful informative and detailed package for admission. It’s mailed in a keepsake envelope “the fat envelope”…and this is tradition.
Since they want everyone to have their decision at the same time-- they mail this first, and allow 4 days time for mail across the country-- at which point decisions are released online.

The package is probably hands-down the nicest and most inviting source of information either of my kids received from a total of over 17 schools they had applied to combined.

Those admitted will really appreciate Carnegie’s approach to admission.

Stop complaining about how they do it-- it’s their choice.
They are still a week ahead of the Ivies-- and it is alot nicer than trying to login to a server with 40000 other people at 5 pm to get to a decision on a computer screen.

@MeganXLR, same thing with me! the application and viewbook mailed on Jan 30th still hasn’t reached. maybe it was some glitch on their system which caused all portals to show that. otherwise, I don’t think my acceptance/rejection letter will come before may so I guess I’ll wait those extra 4 days and view it online.

Question about sleeping bag Sunday visit: They are offering this on Sunday the 10th. Monday the 11th has no events listed. But would students who came for the Sunday overnight be able to (formally or informally) attend a couple of classes (perhaps with their host or a friend of their host)?

It is really easy to attend classes when visiting any school.
Since CMU is primarily an undergraduate institution, most faculty are very welcoming to visitors.
It’s important to check in advance to make sure there’s no exams that day.
The student hosts are told to let the prof know at the start of class there’s a visitor with them.

The students who visit for sleeping bag weekends are typically given a list of classes that are open for visitors (they clear it in advance) with profs. These are the typical intros in various departments.

You can check here for a list of current classes at CMU this semester.
https://enr-apps.as.cmu.edu/open/SOC/SOCServlet

Then go to the CMU page, top left hit directory- and send the faculty member an email-- ask if it’s ok if you visit their class on Monday April 11.

Spring Carnival Thursday and Friday-- it’s technically build week-- but also the third from the last week of the semester. So exams might be occurring- that’s why it’s good to check first to make sure you don’t arrive on site and there’s no class that day.

Congrats?!
