When's the best time to ask for teacher recommendations?

End of junior year or beginning of senior year?

a lot of teachers prefer the end of junior year because they are bombarded with requests for teacher recs during the fall. But not all teachers prefer it, since some feel like “getting in the zone” to do tons of essays. My advice is to just ask each individual teacher their preference. It won’t hurt.

According to my daughter’s guidance counselor, after the seniors graduate, and before the end of the school year.

My school required all of us Juniors to ask teachers for recommendations at the end of this year. Some teachers only accept a certain number of requests (some 10, other 25, etc.). I’d ask ASAP if I were you. I asked the first day we were told, and was #10 of 10 for one teacher.

What if you’re not really sure of what colleges you want to go yet?

well most if not all colleges use the common app, so they will be writing that recommendation. And once they have agreed to writing you one, you can go more into details of specific schools later on next year…
