When's the ideal time to first take the SAT?

So, I'm wondering because I'm a Junior, and as of right now, I'm not signed up for it all or even know when I'm going to take it. I know for sure that I'll do it this year, and a lot of people I know are taking it October 1st (I believee, not sure) but it's obviously too late to sign up for that. Soo, when should I take it, and when did you first take it?
I wanna take it at least twice before I actually send in any scores for college.

You could wait until spring to take it, so from now and then you’ll have more time to prepare. I recommend from April-June. You can also take it again early Fall in your senior year.

You have plenty of time for it.

Do not take it this semester IMO. A good time would be Feb-April, and retake it next October

Most take it in May, and then re take in Oct.

From experience, take them before or a bit after AP tests (if taking). In either case, check the Princeton Review or Kaplan site for free practice test sessions- you go there, and take a mock test; entire length and quietness and all. And its free!

Come SAT time, you’ll be a pro.

Someone told me the other day that she took it in the beginning of junior year to get a base score (plus it’s common to have just finished the math you need for the SAT, so it’s fresh in your mind) and then went from there, and I thought that seemed pretty logical lol

Do you guys think November of senior year is too late? Just for my sake lol

Check with your school you’re applying to. Mine accepts Dec scores (and apps are due in Dec, so they won’t know the score till Jan). Dunno if its good or bad.

I waited until May and June to take it because I did not feel comfortable taking it earlier. I ended up getting a 1900 in May and then a 2110 in June (2150 super scored). So I would advise that you wait until you feel ready to take it. I also recommend you take it at least once before summer 2012.

I’d recommend taking it right after a prep course. I know a lot of people who did it right after the Princeton Review’s 3-4 month prep program with 3-4 practice tests and tips, and they got some really high scores (and a lot of them weren’t expected to get very high).

I recommend taking it spring of soph. year or fall of Junior year. Get your baseline score early so you’ll have more chances to get to where you want & give you a better idea of what level schools you should be looking at. All colleges “Superscore” so there is no harm in taking a combination of SAT / ACT 4 times. I’ve seen way too many students wait until Spring of Junior year, fall in love with a school that requires a 150 point SAT increase & the student doesn’t have enough time to get it there.

Take one in March of Junior year and take the other in October in Senior year.

Alright, so I’m thinking probably December and then I’ll try to see if I can find an SAT prep class to do and then I can take the SAT again in April. Anddd maybe again in the fall of my Senior year. I’ll try to talk to my guidance counselor about it tomorrow.
Thanks for the advice so far you guys!

Yesterday is always the best day to have taken the SAT, especially with Score Choice. Personally, I took it in November of junior year and again in May. I went up 90 points :)
