Does anybody know if CMU has some sort of wait-list thingie and if they'll notify you that you're on it? It's my dream school, so I guess I'm still hoping. :/

Josh, indeed they do have a wait-list "thingie"!

Many schools accept more students than slots in the class, hoping to yield the slots in the class.

BUT....CMU, a rather small program, does not do that. Besides being small, they are prestigious, and so if they accept more than the slots in the class, they could end up having too many choose to attend. So, what CMU does, is they accept the EXACT number of slots available in the class (for both MT and Acting). This is not typical of most schools, but just a few.

And then, they have what is called a "Priority Wait List". This comes in the form of a snail mail letter. My D was on the Priority Wait List for Acting (applied for MT) four years ago at CMU and so I observed this first hand. The letter came around April 1. I just checked and her letter was dated March 29. I believe that their Priority Wait List is very short. They make you reply and let them know if you want to stay on it in case some spots are not filled in the class by those offered admission. But they say if you are called to take a spot, you MUST deposit within two days that you will take it. They also sent my D's financial aid award letter so that is all in hand just in case.

Sometimes people do get off the wait list. She has a friend who graduated last May who got off the CMU MT wait list in May of her app year. The wait list movement will happen, IF it is needed, after May 1 but in early May as anyone offered a spot from the wait list gets two days to decide (this is CMU's "Priority Wait List" system).

I hope that helps. If you are not yet admitted, there is a chance (though not great odds) of being sent a Priority Wait List letter.

Thanks so much, soozievt! Always such great help!

Does anybody know if they have made all the calls? I heard they do the acting calls over a couple of days but who is to say?

I believe they have called two actors for sure.....It took them about 4 days to call the MT kids, and acting is bigger.....

Actually acting is not bigger this year. They are taking 12 acting students, not 16. This way they can have two acting classes (including the mt), not three (because they didnt want 14 in a class), if that makes any sense.

In any effect, they have lessened it to 12 acting and 12 mt.

Nobody can tell how many they have called so far. Reading things like CC and FB do not tell the entire story. Not every applicant or his/her family read or post on such forums. The forums can help one to know when decisions have gone out and have many other benefits (such as information the above poster just provided) but should not be concluded that all the decisions posted on such forums are representative of all that has occurred at that juncture in time.

EVEN on CC ALONE.....I know in each cycle, there have been some families who have posted here on a regular basis but have chosen to keep their college acceptances to themselves until after April 1 or after they have chosen where to attend and have not posted their admission decision outcomes publicly as they were coming out.

Another thing is that the FB group that is putting up MT program acceptance results may not be a group that a straight actor would find or gravitate toward. Same with CC's MT forum.

Threattimesthree: Where did you learn that, because that is not what Barbara Mackenzie-Woods said at the informational session in LA Unifieds.

I know they accepted 13 mt this yera
