Where am I now?

I still have a year left to improve my resume, but am curious where you guys think I stand so I can improve my resume in order to go to the school that I feels best fits me and my capability

My GPA is shaky...it's between a 3.2 and a 3.5, but for the sake of discussion let's assume the worst and make it a 3.2...I am in mainly honors and AP classes, but never in math and few in Science

My ECs are what set me apart I think...

Internships: Youngest ever intern with my Assemblywoman (over 1 year and counting), intern for summer with international Defense and Security Studies "think-tank" in London

Community Service: Ran my own Genocide Awareness campaign at the end of 8th grade and slowly continued it afterwards...we raised thousands and according to teachers the project "changed the school forever". , plenty of political campaigning, I made 2 speeches in my state's capitol building in favor of stricter gun control measures, also last summer I went to Africa to help build a schoolhouse and for cultural immersion

School CLubs: Class President for the past 2 years, writer and editor for school newspaper, VP (inside track to Presidency) of Model Congress club (3 awards and counting...), I also am forming new programs within the club for political awareness (i can go into depth if you ask), I am the most active member of student government in my school...I helped institute our school's new recycling program, have been elected to committees, and appointed to committees by school administration

Awards: I have won the citizenship all 4 years that I attended my summer camp, for being a valued camper, I also have twice won an award from my school district for making a positive impact on the quality of life at my school, and in my eyes above all I won the grand prize from a very well known Fortune 1000 company, amongst 6000
applicants for making a positive impact on the community.

I don't know my SAT score yet because I will be taking it next year, but I am aiming for above a 2000 and also think I will get AWESOME recommendations because of the great relationship I have with my superiors.

My school usually has tens of students that are accepted to Cornell, NYU, and Michigan on a yearly basis...we are one of the top 100 public schools in America
Hope I didn't forget anything...

Dreams: Cornell, Middlebury, Amherst, Bowdoin, Haverford

Happy: NYU, Michigan, Tufts, Emory, Maryland, Penn St., Binghamton

I am interested in Law and Political Science at the moment with a minor interest in Journalism and Psychology...if you have any other advice or suggestions in terms of schools for me I would greatly appreciate it...thanks!!

Chance me please :)

oh btw just to clarify that GPA is of course unweighted and supposedly when colleges look at our school they understand it is one of the most rigorous so that has tended to greatly improve our chances

are you class of 2012?

yessir, sorry for not posting that

don’t mean to be obnoxious…just bumping a bit ;)

i wish my ECs were as good as urs…
Assuming ur SATs are decent you should have a great chance at all those universities (idk much about LACs) for Cornell, NYU, and Michigan u should try to increase ur GPA, u still have lots of time. good luck

Chance Back Please!

good advice, thanks!!

ECs are decent, but with your academic stats being what they are, your “dream” schools are all out of reach. NYu would also be pretty difficult.

fair enough…I certainly have some work to do although after some research into my school’s admission stats…we’ve had plenty of students get into Cornell and NYU with a similar GPA to mine, if not lower and with worse ECs…based on this I think I should probably work to improve my GPA, but not rule those schools out

I can tell you that my sister had a perfect GPA, decent SATs, and just as good ECs, and my dad went there, and she was denied from Amherst. So a 3.2 would make it a HUGE reach.

yeah tbh i’m not really interested in the school regardless, but more so that type of school…they r certainly hard to get into either way, you rlly just have to be who they are looking for at the moment

what’s most important to me is to enjoy my college experience, get a lot out of it, and set me up well for grad school because in the end that’s what matters…it’s hard to spend the money on both and i dnt wanna be paying that off the rest of my life

I think you can get into most of those schools there, but cornell and emory may be a reach considering your GPA, but work hard on getting a good sore on SATs and you will be fine. You ECs are really great though especially sice they are so pertinent to your field. Good luck and work hard next year its an important year for you

ECs are awesome, especially since they sort of relate to your intended major. You should concentrate on your GPA and SATs, since those can bring you down.
Chance me please?
