Where are all the Trinity kids?

I think that I remember the admissions people saying that outside of TX, the largest amount of students came from California. There really is a lot of diversity. Although a lot of people are from TX, many come from other places. I stayed with a girl from Montana, and I met someone from Wyoming. It isn't super diverse, but there is a lot of variety. I liked Trinity, it just wasn't the perfect fit for me. You'll feel welcome and will fit in fine.

thanks for the info everyone!

San Antonio is pretty nice, my S who had lots of college choices was undecided for awhile between Trinity and Pomona. He definitley is liking the laid back Ca lifestyle, and he would have been fine at Trinity too. H e liked how friendly and welcoming students were there. I think you will like it pinky, we are visitinbg as well during admitted students day.

I'm so glad a Trinity thread finally appeared! BG, can you tell me the cut-off SAT score for the automatic scholarship?

I know last year the dean mentioned in passing that they don't give out free rides or full scholarships so they can offer rewards to students with 1290 SAT's who are good students. Again I don't know if that was the cut off or not but it does imply a 1290 will get you something! I found a lot of my D's schools did better then trinity with their packages but a few were similar. Her best schools were 4-5,000 lower with more subsidized loans to pay the remainder. We are still going to visit.

iggal - that was 5 years ago when she was a freshman & I believe at that time, it was around 1300. I have no clue really how much that scholarship would have been, but even a little would have helped. Again, I have no experience with need base aid at Trinity since we didn't qualify & never applied. When my daughter entered the 5th year masters, however, she applied and was awarded the $10,000 scholarships I previously mentioned and recieved the maximum allowable subsidized & unsubsidized stafford loans. As a teacher, she may well qualify down the road for some loan forgiveness. Anyway, we are well pleased with the education she has gotten at Trinity. For any of you who just might be considering going into teaching, I can't say enough good things about the preparation she has received. I could write several pages about that!

I got the 7,500 Trustees Scholarship.
Stats:
SAT: 1390 + 3 SAT II's
GPA: around 3.7 UW
Rank: 16%
good EC's

Just FYI. (I'm not going.)

I LOVED TRINITY!!!!!!!
I stayed for 3 nights (they flew me in for the "multicultural weekend"--they're trying to recruit minorities! lol!)

THe people are the nicest people I've ever met!! Everyone is SO approachable and I stayed in a dorm with 3 sorority girls--it was soo much fun and social life is def awesome!

Beautiful, hilly campus. Clean, new dorms. Wonderful people, teachers, facitilies---I love it i love it i love it.

BUT

My mom is 100% against it--she wants me to go to BU.

Maybe your mom should visits or e-mail some folks on this board who have children there. Parents seem to love the school.

Ask your mom to go to this Trinity site and sign up for "ParentTalk". She can read other parent's posts about the school and ask any questions she has. If she expresses her concerns, someone will be quick to answer. <a href="http://www.trinity.edu/departments/student_affairs/parents/index.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.trinity.edu/departments/student_affairs/parents/index.htm</a></p>

Also have your mom scroll to the bottom of this page and see how "others rate Trinity". <a href="http://www.trinity.edu/departments/public_relations/about_trinity/profile.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.trinity.edu/departments/public_relations/about_trinity/profile.htm</a> Does she know that it's been rated #1 among Western masters level universities for 12 years in a row by US News? Also, a national college counselor organization ranks it #3 for individual attention given to students -- can you get that at BU? Then there's the weather.....

Can you tell I love Trinity, as does my son #1 who went there? Alas, son #2 wants to go to NYU instead. I really think that if our children have worked hard to get into college, we need to let THEM follow THEIR dreams if we're able to do that financially. So NYU it is. I'll be happy to correspond with your mother privately if she would like.

Four of my really good friends will be at Trinity next year, and honestly, it's a great school. For my school, it's one of the best 3 in Texas (third to Rice and UT), and many of our top 10% people are accepted/go there. According to them, the cohesiveness of the student body (as well as the small size of it), the solid academics, and the great residential life/options are reasons to go. I almost applied, but I got in ED elsewhere, but Trinity really is a great school :)

That's exactly the thing....I got in to UT Austin, but its freakin huge!
My mom thinks UT Austin is far more superior than Trinity ,just because it's bigger and has more resources.
I like personal attention better than resources for undergrad.

Does anyone know if Trinity is conservative? Is there a lot of left-leaning teaching done there as there is at other schools?

Would a conservative student be happy at Trinity?

Thanks.

I would say that Trinity definitely leans more to the right. Just check out the number of Christian organizations on campus. Lots of Republican speakers have come to campus as well.
That's not to say it's a haven like A & M, it's more balanced, but if you're conservative you'll be more than welcome.
Oh yeah and I saw a big "Vote Republican" sign hanging on one of the dorms when I visited. You'll be just fine.
