Where are the best PUBLIC high schools?

Which states have high schools are are most attractive to colleges?

Thomas Jefferson High School in Virginia for Science and Technology has a very good reputation.

i dont know about the best.. but los angeles has some of the worst high schools i've ever seen

not mine .

"i dont know about the best.. but los angeles has some of the worst high schools i've ever seen"

Have you ever seen 187 (one eight seven) starring Samuel L. Jackson? Sheesh! :)

New Tier, Ill. Their two high schools.

Los Angeles area has some awesome high schools, but the awesome ones are private. The only good public high school near the los angeles area I can think of is Beverly Hill High School

Illinois Math & Science Academy (IMSA).

Mine's pretty good....it's in ann arbor and has the top 7 music program in the nation. People usually go either to U of M or MSU or even ivy. It's no prep school though ha.

Stuyvesant High School in New York City is arguably the best public High School in America...

Notice the OP said "Which states have high schools that are most attractive to colleges."

I think logic would say the answers to that question would be the answer to the question: "which states have the best high school system (Public and private)"

Off the top of my head, states with excellent overall school systems include mass, connecticut, nj, and ny, and virginia.

check out the site: <a href="http://detroit.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=detroit&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.morganquitno.com%2Fedrank04.htm%5B/url%5D">http://detroit.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=detroit&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.morganquitno.com%2Fedrank04.htm</a></p>

go STUY!!!!!!!!! wooooo

probably Massachusetts. Boston Latin, Lexington?

New York

Illinois has a good public school system too, with New Trier, IMSA, Northside Prep, Whitney Young, Jones, and Walter Payton that continually send graduates to the top 25 schools.

Virginia..............

Texas has some good schools:
Texas Academy of Math and Science
LBJ Science Academy
St. Mark's School

I don't know which are private

Are there any rankings I can look up on a website for this type of information? I'm just wondering where my school ranks (in PA).

NYC clearly has the best private schools in the US, and some of the best public schools, Hunter, Stuy, Bronx Sci, BK Tech. However any other public school in NYC is absolutely awful.

California is one of the worst places to be for high school. Our standardized test scores are abysmal (did I even spell that correctly?), our systems all screwed up thanks to a certain Governator and our population's so huge colleges kick us out to avoid flooding.

I am so leaving in a year.

IwannabeBrown, that is not true. Hunter, Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech are the most widely known public high schools in NYC and therefore usually get the best reputation. There are many other good high schools in the five boroughs. Townsend Harris, Cardozo, Edward R. Murrow, Midwood, etc. The worst thing about NYC public schools is that they are ALL overcrowded, even the best ones.

the ones in my area are very good. whitman, winston churchill, and wootton. not nearly as good as TJ but they do have very good reputations.
