I play the piano all the time, so I'm looking for a college with easy access to pianos -- for everyone, not just music majors. Many colleges have the pianos locked away in the music building for people with reservations; however, some colleges have pianos in dorms and lounges. Let me know about piano-friendly colleges. Thanks!

Vassar has a lot of pianos around I think.

Cornell.

They have the music dept. with full access to pianos.

They have a "Just About Music" dorm with regularly tuned pianos on the floor and a full stage. Everybody who lives there is very into music, and it'd be easy to find somebody to play with for a bit. I believe they also have silent practice rooms.

Plus, random pianos scattered throughout campus ... i can name two off the top of my head, one in Willard Straight hall, the other in Alice Cook.

I haven't been there, but I've heard that Bryn Mawr has pianos in all the dorms.

if i remember correctly, vassar has one of the largest collection of steinway pianos, including one in every dorm

Williams has 16 pianos in practice rooms in the music dept., available to anyone. There are at least another dozen pianos scattered around the campus in dorms, halls, etc.

Wouldn't it make more sense to start with a list of colleges that you are interested in and then find out about the availability pianos?

It seems that just randomly throwing out the names of colleges with pianos is kind of inefficient!

Amen, interesteddad.

Oberlin has the conservatory of course, but there is also a GOOD piano in the lounge of most dorms.

Another amen on interesteddad's comment.

Also, as Spiker seemed to imply, "where are the good pianos???" is a much better question than "where are the pianos???"

At my state U, there are pianos in every dorm that anyone can play on, but they are absolutely horrendous.

WHOA!!!!! Holy crap! I'm definitely gonna drive over to Vassar and steal one of them :p

University of Maryland- College Park has 103 Steinways, but then again, there are upwards of around 30,000 undergraduates

The University of Rochester has pianos available in the student union (short walk from dorms) as well as in the old athletic center (short walk from some freshman and upper classmen dorms)
You can also ride the bus to Eastman and use their facilities (which I am assuming have REALLY REALLY good pianos)

Oberlin has the largest collection of Steinway pianos in the world, aside from the Steinway factory. All of them available to any student.
