Where are the Santa Barbara City College students?

I’m here. What questions do you have?

Hi! I’m from LA and i’m currently a senior who wants to go to UCSB really really bad! I have a 3.5, about 100 hours in community service, I’m an AP/Honors student, and I need to bring up my SAT and ACT scores. That being said, I have no clue if I could get accepted to UCSB.

So, I made a plan B. I looked up SBCC, and it looks like a pretty good school. The only problem/concern I have with CCs is that most students take more than 2 years to finish their general eds because the schools are overpopulated…at least in LA. So I was wondering if SBCC has the same problem as well?

Also, do you happen to know about honors classes in SBCC? Are they really hard, or are they achievable?

Oh and I’d like to know about my housing options!

Thank you! I’d really appreciate it!

I mean it all depends on the student. If you’re determined to get out of there in 2 years, you can definitely do it. My suggestion is to use assist.org to figure out what classes you need to take and make sure that each semester you are taking between 14-15 units, otherwise you won’t be out of there in 2 years. You need 60 units after 2 years to transfer to UCSB. I’m not too familiar with the honors classes because they are pretty much useless. They’re more difficult and don’t do much for your resume, especially if you’re planning on transferring to UCSB. All the california community colleges have an agreement with UCSB. It is called the Transfer Agreement Guarantee (TAG) that guarantees a student admission if they have a 3.2 GPA. This is for most majors. You have a few different options in terms of housing. You can live in downtown Santa Barbara, which is close to school. Some also chose to live in Isla Vista, which is where UCSB is and there are more parties, nightlife and such. If you chose to live in Isla Vista, I have experience since I lived there this year and last year. If you are looking for a “dorm” experience, check out Tropicana Gardens or The Loops. Otherwise there are apartments all around you can check out. Feel free to ask mor questions.

Thanks for the info! It’s helping me a lot! (: I am pretty determined to transfer in two years but again, i’m scared that the classes I need in order to transfer will fill up before I have the chance to choose my classes… :frowning: Has that ever been a problem for you?

Also can I count on seeing counselors or is that a problem as well?

For housing, what do you personally recommend?
I’ve researched Tropicana but the reviews for it weren’t that great… Many people complained about the.food and how strict they were.

Thanks again! (:

Classes do full up quickly but it’s not as bad as some people make it out to be. It depends on your major in the sense that some majors require you to take a lot more specific courses than others. Being the psychology major that I am, there are only a few courses that I NEED to take. What is your major? I would suggest you plan ahead. Counselors are definitely helpful but I mean doing your own research on assist.org is beneficial as well. I lived at tropicana gardens my first year so I can give an honest opinion. It’s a great place because it’s convenient. Everything is here for you and you don’t have to worry about cooking, cleaning, etc. The rules can be strict at times but they aren’t overly unbearable. It also depends on the type of person that you are. You can’t expect to be drinking and smoking all over the place and not get away with it. You also can’t expect to be playing loud music at random hours in the night. The food is alright. Nothing special and nothing too terrible for the most part. It’s usually better than anything I can cook myself. Hopefully I answered your questions. Feel free to ask more questions.

hey i might be going to sbcc and looking to transfer also. thanks for this thread! maybe we can dorm together lol
