Where are the top 10 students from your (or your child's) high school going to?

UPenn
UMass Amherst (4)
Northeastern
Boston College

class of 2017 (my brother’s graduating class)
Holy Cross
Boston College
Boston University
UChicago

From a catholic school in Marin County, first in class is going to Berkeley, and second to Dartmouth.

Highly ranked school in New Jersey. The list is only schools attending not acceptances.
9 to Penn
3 to Princeton
2 to Harvard
1 to Cornell
1 to Brown
1 to JHU
1 University of Rochester
1 to Northwestern
1 to USC

Quite a few of the top kids in my daughter’s high school end up at the local private located just a few miles away. The school is trying to raise its academic profile and offers huge financial aid packages, and often nearly full rides, to top Colorado graduates. It’s hard to beat a cheap, or free, college education even if you have the stats (but not the economic basis for financial aid) for much more selective schools.

I’m a student, not a parent. But, the valedictorian is going to the University of Pittsburgh and I believe the salutatorian is going to West Virginia University. Most of the top 10% are going to Pitt. One guy is going to the university of north carolina- chapel hill. Most people at my public high school stay close to home.

1-Duke

2-Brown
3-UF
4-UF
5-UF
6-UVA
7-Emory
8-UF
9-Furman
10-UF

South Florida HS…Class size 510. Number 3 & 4 could not get in anywhere which I find strange. They were all 4.0 students with HPA starting at 5.0+. #3 & 4 rejected from USC, UCLA, UCB, Princeton, Stanford. My daughter was #4. I’m so glad this college admissions is OVER. I know UF is a good school…but she was extremely disappointed

One of the Largest Public High schools in Oregon. It was a great year for our school, with three of us going to top institutions. Our school is comprised largely of 1st generation, and poverty-level students.

1 (Valedictorian): Stanford

2 (Salutatorian): Stanford

3: Princeton

In No Particular Order for Some of 4-10
Biola University
LIU Global
Portland State University
Arizona State University
University of Oregon

I want to congratulate everyone who made it, and is going on to do great things in their future. I’m also really glad to have someone from my school attend the same university as me. Good luck to everyone in their future endeavors, and I wish those who are applying to college this upcoming year the best. Don’t let the rankings dictate where you want to go, follow your passion and goals. If it happens that your goal school is one of the top schools, then go for it too.

^^^^

Sounds like you might be going to Stanford, so congratulations!

Note however, that since this is College Confidential, you want to be able to post anonymously. You lose that by putting what I assume is your zip code, and possibly your name, in your user name and identifying yourself as Val or Sal.

I’m not sure who exactly was top 10 or where they’re going but here’s my best shot at remembering:

From one of the top three public HS in WV:

West Virginia University
University of Pittsburgh
West Virginia University
Emory University
Yale University
University of Southern California
Probably more WVU
WVU
Marshall University?
WVU

Our suburban NYC school doesn’t formally rank but from what I saw in the paper, it’s Dartmouth and Northwestern.

My school is a highly ranked private school in Long Island! These are the top schools that the class of 2017 at my school are going to.

Rice University (valedictorian)
University of Rochester (salutatorian)
Cornell University
Stony Brook University
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Boston University
Tulane University
Northeastern University
Villanova University
New York University

Public School - STEM Magnet Top ten:
MIT ( 1 )
Brown ( 1 )
Cornell (3 )
Dartmouth ( 1 )
Johns Hopkins ( 3 )
University of Florida ( 1 )

My local paper just published the number of kids accepted to Ivy League schools from my district (approx 400 students in class and school does not rank.) 21 kids accepted - 16 attending. Iirc, every Ivy was on the list. Likely those not attending Ivy are going to Stanford, MIT. Cal tech, etc. There was no mention of other top/elite acceptances but I’m sure there were many accepted to Little Ivies, Swat/Haverford/Carlton/Vandy/Chicago and the other usual suspects.

My son gave up soccer (and also music) from a public school to go to OCSA as a senior in dance. As you probably know there are even fewer boys in dance, 5/30. For EA/ED 2018, 4 Stanford, 2 Harvard ED deferred (due to binding issue last year), 1 Princeton and 2 Yale…if your son wants to continue with club baseball it maybe very hard since school goes till 5p Mon-Thurs. Something has to give. My son has always loved schools, but never been this happy! Good luck and msg me if you have other questions.

At a large competitive public high school in Southern CA, I think top 10 kids GPA wise are going to:

CalTech
Johns Hopkins
Cornell
UC Berkeley on regents scholarship
OOS public schools on merit scholarships
USC/UCLA on regents scholarship

This is not to say they did not want to go to HYPSM type of schools, but for various reasons they all got denied.

I was surprised to see kids of substantial varying academic abilities got into UCLA or Berkeley and will attend the same schools. Also, around 5 kids went to military academies such as West Point and Air Force on full scholarships but many of them were not top kids academically or leadership wise which surprised me.

Unless we know them personally, there is no way to know. Most kids here are still waiting as many schools haven’t released EA results yet. I know 1 is going to Duke. And I know 1 is hoping for but still waiting to hear from the Naval Academy.

Class of 2017, I think 6/10 to UW Madison, 1 to Vanderbilt, 3 to Minnesota. Rural Wisconsin school–people mostly stay within 1 state.

Our school’s Class of 2017 Top 10 had a nice mix: UC Berkeley, UPenn, lots of Cornells, but no HYPSM that year :frowning:
Whereas now for Class of 2018 there’s at least 1 person accepted early into each HYP school and a couple Cornell ED’s as usual. Forgot to mention that I’m from New York State LOL.

We live in one of the top school districts in Washington State. Most of the students are waiting to hear on or before April 1st (our’s included), the current ED’s or athletic scholarships are attending: Stanford , Pomona, Santa Clara, Tulane. The schools that some will be (or likely to be) attending are: University of Washington, Cal, Harvard, MIT, Brown, Cornell, Northwestern, U of Chicago, Boston U, Tufts, USC, Whitman, Cal Tech, Cal Poly Tech & St. Andrews.
