Where are you applying? (Non UC transfers)

bball, you got into Rice for spring semester?

Barnard
Bryn Mawr
Spelman
Penn
Temple (would they accept me after I turned them down initially?)
Rutgers

Religion major :)

nooo..i got into Rice as a FRESHMAN.

Oh. Well that clears things up.

So southpasdena/bball87/others, I should check out the grad rankings for economics to determine which uni's undergraduate econ department is best? I guess it makes sense, but wouldnt it be different?

listen...grad school rankings of departments are useless. If they mattered, someone from Dartmouth would be jobless after their undergrad. That is the not the case, as dartmouth grads are some of the hottest commodities for employers and many find great jobs in the business world, despite having a pretty average (ranked in the 40s) for economics.

Yes rankings dont really matter, but it does give you somewhat of an idea or starting point at what colleges to look at. And the fact that dartmouth grads are hot commidities as you put is because of their strong alumni from their grad school in prestigious banking positions and the fact that they have been moving up on every b school ranking list

I would rather not get into an argument over how valid how important rankings are. I was just interested when you (bball87) said that cornell's econ dept. is commonly ranked in the top 15, and I wanted to know where you were able to find rankings on undergrad economics departments. I referred to grad school rankings because southpasdena mentioned it. I'd appreciate any help.

Any ideas? The only college that comes to mind when I think of economics is UChicago...

I must say that is true. My cousin got his degree from Northwestern though, and his friend from UChicago, both in Econ, but now my cousin is working as a consultant to the White House and I have no idea what his friend is doing. All I'm saying if you do well and go to a graduate program with comparable academics, you'll be in good shape, it doesn't matter where you do it. Now, I don't know what schools are comparable to UChicago in Econ, but that's just what I know from my cousin who went to Northwestern.
