Where are you applying?

Some colleges ask to list the colleges you are applying to. Do you really list all the colleges you are applying to? Do you have a choice not to list them? (The question did not say optional)

You should have no obligation to list what colleges you are applying to. Frankly, it’s not really any of their business. I can’t say for sure, but I would imagine that they are interested in comparing the quality of the schools you are applying to with their perceived quality of their own school. I highly doubt anything you list will be held against you.

To get back to my initial point, though, there’s no reason you should have to list any other colleges you’re applying to. Employers wouldn’t ask you what other jobs you’re applying for…

You may want to contact the admissions office of the schools that ask that question and ask them if it’s mandatory to list the other colleges you’ve applied to. If they say yes, I would ask them why.

Leave it blank. It’s not mandatory, and many admissions books recommend you don’t fill it in.
