I’m an incoming freshman looking to transfer by my sophomore year.

Highschool GPA: I don’t even know. It’s in the mid 2.0 range UW, low 3.0 range W. I messed up, basically.
SAT: 750 Reading, 780 Writing (100% multiple choice, but I may or may not have fallen asleep during the essay), 630 Math. Considering retaking it before my first semester is over, depending on my financial situation.
College GPA: I’m definitely aiming for straight A’s, and I’m confident I can do it.
Current College: Miami Dade College
Major: Journalism
Hooks: Hispanic, first in my family to attend college?, very low income (is this even a hook?)
EC/Other: Four years of newspaper in high school (EIC my senior year), two years of Quill and Scroll (President my senior year), two years and counting as Social Media Team Leader at the Harry Potter Alliance (it’s a thing, it’s awesome, look it up!), editor for LeakyNews, summer journalism workshop at the University of Miami, will be working ~30-40 hours/w part time during college, plan to write for college newspaper, possibly join my college’s chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance, other stuff I might be forgetting.
The reason my high school GPA is so atrocious is that I’ve been struggling with depression and anxiety since middle school. It got really bad throughout high school. I was finally diagnosed my senior year, was put on medication and therapy, came off medication and therapy, and have been a lot better (with some relapses) since then. My financial situation and family health issues also got in the way. I don’t plan to use any of this as an excuse, but I do want my essays to outline how I’ve worked to overcome these obstacles and succeed in spite of them.

Schools I’m looking to apply to: Mizzou, GWU, Columbia College Chicago, UMinnesota, Syracuse, Ohio University, UFlorida.
Might apply to: UMich-Ann Arbor (still researching their Comm Studies major or looking into other majors), UOklahoma, UOregon, Penn State, UNCCH, Northwestern, a few others.

I know many of those are reaches, but a girl can dream. If applying for sophomore year doesn’t go well, I’ll reapply for junior admission.
