Hi i'm a freshman who just is about to start school at George Mason and right now my major is in Econ. I was wondering what the job prospects are for me with a BA in Econ. I know George Mason is the #1 School to watch for in America but I just don't see myself getting as many job opportunities as students from UVA or W&M.

I have no issue transferring after 2 years and I have no specific career I'm aiming towards but I just don't wanna have a hard time finding a job after college, ya know? I wanna at least making 50k starting because I want to help my mom out after I graduate. Thank you for taking the time and answering!

This is too broad of a question.

There are so many paths you can pursue. Remember, your degree does not always equate to your career, especially for non-technical majors like yours.

$50k is quite a bit to ask for fresh out of college in many careers. I would say it is not especially realistic.

btw, People from W&M and UVA have trouble finding jobs too, but they eventually get something, just like you will. Econ at GMU is very strong.

A perk of going to school at GMU versus W&M/UVA/Tech is that you have access to DC/NoVA companies year round. That means you can intern or work part-time during the school year if your schedule allows for it. That will make the job search a lot easier if you are able to get year round experience in your field.

I interned in Herndon last summer and the person who trained me was an intern 2 years before I came. He was from Mason and ended up working there part time during his senior year, then was offered a full time position. He was a Management major and is making about $45k now.
