With the above credentials, where can one apply? What kind of colleges are reaches/matches/safeties?

Bump. anyone ? Please advise on my top college possibilities.

where are you from and what locations do you like?

Open to the top colleges in the US. not specifically particular about regions within US.

Can you please chance me for the ivy leagues, UCLA, UCB, MIT, Stanford and the kind.

Great GPA, challenging courses, good SAT, but NOT ENOUGH EC’s. Your stats are similar to those who are seeking to apply to Ivy Leagues. What distinguishes you? Join more clubs in school, and expand on you violin and chess. You can write a research paper about chess and publish it in a top research journal, and teach kids violin lessons. Top schools don’t want a student who lives by tests.

I will say you have a high chance with UCLA and UCBerkeley, but participate more if you want to attend the Ivy Leagues.

Chance me please!

Bump. Others please?

thanks

Your stats are great, and you have a good chance for ivy or public ivy (there are no “targets” for the top schools; they’re all reaches, for everyone). It’s all going to come down to the essays, and how you package yourself. Read the book, On Writing the College Application Essay by Harry Bauld (oxymoron name, but he’s a former Brown admissions officer and worth it’s weight in gold -tells you what to avoid writing about!). Your essays are going to be key. Above poster said, what sets you apart? It’s all comes down to how you write about yourself. And of course, make sure you have recs from teachers that know you well, and love you :). I think your EC’s are fairly strong, but make excellent use of your summer building on them. Good luck!

Are you istate for CA? Then yes to applying to UCB. What’s your EFC? That will make a big diff. as to what to put on your list. Some of the ivy’s will provide more in the way of financial aid than others. And don’t say, money isn’t an object. It’s better to come up with a list of schools you want to attend, but also schools that when it comes down to decision time, you are actually able to attend. So a few more details on where you live and whether you are shooting for only ivy’s/tops, or whether you are hoping for merit aid, etc. Will get more replies some more info.

Thanks so much for the feedback.

Not from CA - out of state.

As of now, aiming at Ivies/Public Ivies -
UCB/UCLA/UCSD/MIT/Stanford/UPenn/Columbia/Princeton/Brown

Georgia tech, Carnegie, NYU, JHU. are my other options (kind of safeties)

Does the above list sound realistic?

Can you chance me for each of the above choices?

Will asking for no aid, increase the chances of acceptance?

Others?

The chess state champion stands out (though not knowing which state you come from diminishes the effect). If you’re not in CA, UCLA/Berkeley may be a low reach/high match for you because of the low number of EC’s. You can be pretty confident about acceptance to UCSD, though.

Continue to do more community service hours in tutoring. Schools to consider: UC Berkley, Rice, University of Chicago, and UW

Thanks all for the feedback. Really helpful.

314159265 - you mentioned “If you’re not in CA, UCLA/Berkeley may be a low reach/high match for you because of the low number of EC’s” …

I dont get it fully…

Is the acceptance level for Berkeley / UCLA lower or higher for out of state and international applicants? The out of state tution fee is much much higher … Was under the impression that acceptance rates are similar if not more for out of state applicants… Am I wrong?

Others,

Ivies - are they not even high reaches?

Are you nationally ranked in chess for your age? That might be something to list if you are. You look really good but you’ll want to expand descriptions of your ECs a little more.

Yes, I definitely think you have a shot at Ivies.
