Where can I apply?

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on schools that will accept me after a gap year. I graduated this year but am unable to go to the college I got into because of personal reasons. I will definitely apply to colleges this fall but am not sure if I will be accepted anywhere good. Does anyone have advice on schools I can get into? Here are my stats:

Race (not that it matters): African-American

GPA: 3.75

ACT: 29

EC: National Honor Society, FBLA, Scholastic Bowl (4 years), Soccer (4 years)
International Club (President), Literary Guild, Peer Mediation

Awards: National Merit Semi-Finalist, Illinois State Scholar, History Student of the Year, Scholastic Bowl All-Conference

AP classes: European History, Chemistry, English Literature, Physics, English Composition, Spanish, Psychology.

I unfortunately only took one AP test (English Comp) and got a 5.

Desired Major: International Relations

I understand that my stats are mediocre at best but do I have chance at a school in 15-30 range ranking wise? If not where are some good schools I should think about applying to?

What is your budget? Can your family pay $60k each year?

You should think about re-taking the ACT. If you can raise it a bit, you will get yourself in range for merit-based scholarships at some places.

How are you planning to spend your gap year? That can also make you a stronger candidate. There are a number of threads about this issue in the Parents Forum. You could pop over there, and scroll down to find them.

Wishing you all the best!

American, GWU (expensive), Maryland, Syracuse, Ohio State, Denver and Seton Hall. Best of luck!

Do you prefer West Coast schools or East Coast schools? Try looking into D3 schools if you want good merit-aids.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the replies thus far, they have helped!
My family doesn’t have a lot of mony to spare for me so I would have to pay for most of my college. I have no problem taking out loans. I’m spending my gap year teaching English in El Salvador, and as to East Coast schools or West Coast schools I don’t have a preference. I just need to know the best schools I can get into.
