I will be a freshman in college next year at Harvard and am looking to tutor to make some money. Where do those looking to tutor usually go to find jobs? How do they find jobs? Do they post a "tutoring sign" on bulletin boards at middle or high schools. I want to tutor younger kids.....not college students. lol

ALSO....I could babysit children sometimes...where would I find a job as a babysitter?

Any other college money making job ideas you have?

For tutoring, I would walk into the middle or high school and ask the administration where you can post a sign. In our school it's outside the guidance office, but in a younger school you'll need to put it where the parents will see it to sign up their kids.

I would also check out the community e-mail lists, our school sends one out monthly, that might let you add your ad. It all depends on how many clients you want. Check out the local pools, YMCA, other family places. Remember, it's going to be the parents paying for it and signing the kids up so you need to advertise to them.

Tutoring and babysitting can be great, flexible ways to earn money for college. Our high school has a notebook in the guidance office where tutors can list their expertise and contact information. Also, some parents post babysitting job ads in various college departments (often education, child development, psych, etc). Check these departments and see if some one knows where to look. Many local colleges have day care centers. You can call around and see if they allow postings for child care. They may also have bulletin boards where parents post ads. It is a good idea to bring reference letters from previous jobs/experiences you've had that relate to these areas or at least have permission from any previous employers for people to call them for references. Soon you will have satisfied people referring more people to you, but you will need to establish a bit of a track record and references are helpful. College professors also advertise for students to help with child care: these jobs may be posted in a specific way at your college.
