There are a lot of sites, and I don't know which are the most accurate. Google this:
calculator "financial aid"

http://www.finaid.org - Use the financial aid calculator

Don't know if you ever found what you are looking for but the steps to financial aid are:
1. Complete the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov) - even if you don't think you can qualify for anything - the very least you will be offered is a Stafford Student Loan (low interest loan that doesn't have to be repaid until you graduate)

Register for any scholarships you can find on the college web site or go to fastweb site to search around - this takes a lot of work but there is money out there you just have to dig around.

Stay in the federal loan programs if you find you have to use student loans - there is Stafford Student Loan for the student; the PLUS parent loan for parents, and a new GRADPlus loan for grad or professional degree students. Consolidation loans are also considered part of the federal program but you those come into play after you graduate. Check out www.studentlendingworks.org for overview and more links - college web site also usually has lots of links and information about these programs.

If you are an Ohio resident or coming to an Ohio college look for loan programs that offer special benefits like a lower interest rate , money back - www.ohiolendingworks.org is a great site to provide some of that information.
