where can I get in?

Middlebury, 3.3 GPA, Eng major, 170 LSAT, Mexican-American

Georgetown, probably.

I would say a couple T14’s. Georgetown, Cornell, and Duke perhaps. Who knows. The URM status will help. I hope I can pull a 170 when I take the LSAT. My 170 and a 3.9 would look good together.

Go over to Top Law school and check out the URM page. There is alot of very good information there and many people with your numbers that have applied to great schools. If you have a strong application there is no reason you can get into a top T14 school with that LSAT score and being Mexican. Work hard on your personal statement and you should be in good shape but please apply early. My daughter is facing many WL because she waited and applied late. Good luck and I hope you get the school you want.

Because your GPA is on the lower end, you should apply as early as possible. It seems like splitters who apply early have significantly better admissions outcomes than those who don’t. If you get your applications in really early, you should get into a few of the lower T14s. I think people over-estimate the admissions boost for Hispanic applicants, however, so I wouldn’t be overly optimistic.

The fact that you are both a splitter and a URM make your cycle difficult to predict. You will definitely break the T14; how high you go will depend on your softs. I would blanket the Top 14 and see what happens. I wouldn’t be shocked if you pulled off Penn or NYU.

Agree with the other posters that you would have no problem getting into a good school, assuming all other factors are satisfactory (essay, recs, etc.). And that’s assuming your 170 is real, not estimated.

Lucky. I wish I had a 170. Last time I took a practice test I was looking at a 143 (took freshman year). But I’m still a sophomore so I still have time. I suspect I would go up a few points if I took one now.

On the other hand I’m so desperate I’m actually willing to go overseas.

Doesn’t a 3.3 seem low tho for top schools, even for a URM?

also check lawschoolnumbers.com to compare stats.

A URM’s cycle is always wild, but T14 is pretty much guaranteed. Make sure to have your personal statement read over by experienced people and submit a great diversity letter.

And yes unfortunately schools love high GPA low LSAT URM splitters, not the other way around. Though your stats make you competitive even as a non-URM, so you’re still golden.

is columbia out of the ? wht about ut?

Neither Columbia nor UT are out of the question. Even HYS aren’t completely out of the question.

Apply.

170 is a HUGE plus, some school weigh you LSAT equally if not more then your GPA, plus your a miniority…Columbia would be a reach, their average LSAT score is about 172 so you don’t stand out there, and their average GPA is about a 3.69, so you fall short there too. Their lowest GPA range was a 3.56. Unless you have an outstanding recommendation letter, amazing essay on the LSAT, outstanding personal statment, and outstanding extra-cir, your chances won’t be so good…GPA’s SUCK!
