Where can I get into?

I recently received my SAT score which completes my college profile.
I am currently in my Junior year in a public high school in Md.
My cumulative gpa is 3.82 and weighted is 4.70. The problem is my SAT is only a 1710. I have only taken it once so i still can improve it. Extracurricular wise I help with the schools special need soccer, bowling, and baseball teams. I am a member of the national honor society, a school ambassador, and in my class council. I am also on the schools athlete leadership board. What are my chances at these colleges with my current stats:
UMD
University of Delaware
Boston College
Boston university
Villanova
Temple
Northeastern
Uva
College of charleston
Unc chapel hill

Any input will help. Thanks

I can tell you right now you are probably getting into UMD. Your SAT score still blows the average UMD SAT score out of the water, from what I can tell. Your scores are pretty good for UD too. In fact, I think you have a pretty good chance to get into all of the schools you listed. UVA is the only school where I’d be a bit worried about. Usually I’d say your ECs should cover that, but apparently not. I’m in the EXACT SAME BOAT as you are in. High GPA, a lot of ECs, varsity sports, but I scored basically the same on the SAT as you (10 points lower). I posted a similar thread and a Duke admissions person told me they wouldn’t pass me to the 2nd admissions reader…ouch. So, most of the schools you listed, you can get in. But with your ECs, I’d say aim even higher, I personally think you can do it. Retake the SAT (I am in June) try out the ACT (I am in September) and work hard to get those up. It sucks 11 years of education and hard work can be wiped out by these money-grabbing schemes, but I wouldn’t let an SAT stop me from getting into the schools you DESERVE to be in. Good luck in your college search, you have what it takes to get into nearly any school…it’s just the damn SAT. I’ll send you links on SAT improvement stuff if you want them, I’ve been looking since basically 5AM today.

@BioTech36‌
Thanks for the response. And good luck to you too

If you are not a NC resident, your chances at UNC-Chapel Hill are very, very slim. Your scores are on the low side for Villanova, BC, and BU, although your strong GPA might compensate. What are you interested in studying, and what is your home state? Will you need financial aid?

My homestate is Maryland, im interested in either electrical or chemical engineering and yes i will need financial aid

BU CGS might be a high match.

what is cgs? @TomSrOfBoston‌

BU College of General Studies, primarily for applicants whose stats did not qualify them for the other schools at BU.

@Biotech36, University of Maryland’s average SATs are definitely over 1900… so no, the OP’s SATs do not “blow the average Maryland SAT out of the water.” Furthermore, the OP is interested in electrical or chemical engineering, which is far more competitive than the average program at Maryland, and the average SAT scores for engineering majors is usually significantly higher than the overall university average.

College of Charleston, UNC Chapel Hill, and Boston College do not have engineering.

OP… if you are serious about electrical or chemical engineering, you need to study over the summer and retake the SATs… you also need to do a better job researching schools… you listed 3 schools that don’t even have engineering.

You might want to try the SuperMatch link on the upper left to help research more appropriate schools.

@harvardandberkeley University of Maryland’s middle range SAT scores were between 1200 and 1500 according to their website. http://www.admissions.umd.edu/counselor/FreshmanProfile.php

@Biotech36, on the link you just posted, the middle 50% of SATs was 1260 to 1420 on the 1600 scale (not including writing)… the OP has a 1710 on the 2400 scale… so he is definitely not above the average… in fact, the OP is below the average of UMD.

@harvardandberkeley Ah, I see, I did not read that correctly. My bad.

@harvardandberkeley‌ i listed college of charleston because my sister goes there and if I did apply there i would most likely major in physics and get a grad degree in engineering somewhere else. I listed BC for the same reason cause that’s where my other sister goes and I would do the same thing there. As for UNC, I most likely wouldnt even waste my time applying there because they don’t have engineering and they’re extremely selective especially for out of state. Is there any colleges you can think of that would be good for my stats if I can raise my SAT up to 1850-1950?

With your current SATs…
Reaches: Northeastern, UMD, Penn State, RPI
Matches: Tulane, Syracuse, WPI (don’t need to submit SATs, Stevens Institute, Colorado School of Mines, Drexel

A lot more options open up if you get your SATS in the range 1800-1950.
