My son is in the Business School and he got an email from his advisor. Did you get anything in your Rutgers email?

What school are you in? I would call that school if you do not know who your advisor is. They are busy during add/drop and you will need to get there early during walk in hours.

Can you change your advisor? Mine is more interested in talking about himself. I don’t think he gets how stressful this time is. He sucked during APA day also.

troy I’m not sure. You could always inquire at the dean’s office. I am guessing they won’t change because it is probably alphabetically assigned.

I agree that some advisors stink. When you go in for advising, don’t just ask, “what do you think?” or “what should i do?”. Have a game plan and ask specific questions. This should keep him on-topic.

Asking fellow students or even posting your question on FB in a Rutgers forum is sometimes better and more time-efficient.

I asked questions at APA day which he got wrong. I’m afraid to say something to the Dean since the department is small but I’m not the only one who feels this way about this guy.

Is there any other way to get answers to your questions? I find the Rutgers website pretty good when searching for answers.

My son is in RBS and he has a specific advisor each year. They send the occasional helpful email, but the ‘advising sessions’ are pretty limited this time of year (10 min max) and I’m not sure how personalized they get with anyone. You really have to do a lot of the legwork on your own, for anything, at this school.
