Where Can I Go?

Hey all.

Currently I am a freshman at Colorado State University, studying health and exercise science. But what I really want to do is a degree in music. I would love to be a composer (I play piano and guitar, and over the last year have built up a decently sized home studio using MIDIs and other music software such as Cubase, EastWest QL, etc.). However, I feel that any major in music would better my composing skills, so while i would love to have a degree in composition, I think that any degree would be alright.

The thing is though, I feel that most posts here (although mostly in the transfer forums) are about top schools and IVY leagues. I'm just a slightly above average student though - I had a 3.45 in High School and a 3.0 this semester due to all my science classes. Where can I go that I could pursue a major in music that is right for me? Currently I am looking at University of Oregon (Bachelors of Science in Music Technology), NYU (same as U of O, but rather expensive and probably a reach school due to my grades), and Loyola University in Chicago (maybe a safety).

It would be difficult for me to go to auditions due to cost, but not completely impossible, so if you know of any schools that do not require auditions or allow you to send in a CD, that would be a lot of help. Thanks in advance for all your help guys, and any advice you have just in general is more than welcome.

University of Colorado in Boulder would be worth looking into. Do you have the grades to transfer there?

Yes I believe I have the grades to go there, but I was hoping to go somewhere out of state. Of course, beggers can’t be choosers i suppose!

They have a very good music department. I would definitely look at it seriously.
