Where Can I go? :(

I received my December scores for the SAT and got 2130 (650 CR. 800 M. 680 W) Many people here say it’s too low and I know it’s too low… Can anybody tell me what colleges can accept me? My GPA is fine (4.0) and I have some ECs, most important is that I play rowing. Just my SAT is too low… What colleges will I have a slight chance?

A 2130 places you at the 97th percentile, which is very good. You can apply to many schools! Perhaps your chances at the Ivy Leagues and top schools like UChicago are relatively slimmer compared to other higher scoring applicants, but you aren’t shut out just based on your SAT score. I would apply to the schools you want to go to; just add some matches and safeties.

Are you an international, and from what country? What can you pay? What is your proposed major? Are you good enough at rowing to be recruited?

@intparent International from Egypt. Can pay anything my parents are somewhat rich. Pre Medical or Biological Sciences. Just came out of novice rowing, so not that good still.

As a full pay international you will have some choices with those scores. If your parents can pay $60,000 US per year, that is what I mean by full pay. You will want to confirm that before going much further. Are you a senior (so rushing to meet application deadlines now)? Do you care if it is a big or small school? Rural vs urban? Weather preference?

Not 60k per year wow more like 25k…I’m a junior, no preference

@intparent do I have a shot for UCLA with a financial aid… my parents are not THAT rich.

Okay, then you are an international student who needs financial aid. You will not get FA at any UC colleges. Also, remember that you need to pay travel expenses, and will be required to purchase health insurance (about $2,000 per year). Are you a senior this year?

As @intparent stated California UC’s give no FA to International students so expect to pay around $55K/year to attend not including personal expenses.

sorry, community college is ur best bet!

@intparent I’m a junior

Only on CC would anyone have the hubris to suggest to a 4.0 student that Community College was the best option. ;))

Your 2130 is not “too low” for acceptance in so many US colleges.

I’m not the right one to give advice on which ones, but @intparent is a wonderful resource!

Use the tools on the site to put in your stats and requirements to get ideas on possible schools of interest that might offer FA to an international. Your scores are not "too low.

They are too low for schools that are need blind and meet need for internationals, though. A lot of schools might admit the OP, but won’t give enough aid to bring the cost down to $25K (with travel & insurance). I personally don’t think community college makes any sense for international students.

I’m discussing with my parent regarding the money; they say it’s somewhat possible. @intparent can I at least get ACCEPTED at UCLA with full pay?

Very possibly, but what is the point if you don’t have close to a quarter of a million US dollars to get through your 4 years? You won’t get any aid or scholarship money after that. Lots of kids in the US want to go to colleges that are unaffordable for their families, but have to make other choices. You don’t want to put your parents’ retirement or savings for things like medical expenses at risk so you can go to Southern California to college.

Very sensible talk @intparent … I’ll most probably attend a local college here for free as I have many full rides in Egypt and KSA. Most probably will attend King Abdulaziz University for free, they also give me 300$ each month student salary haha.

Since you are interested in an American style education, and you live in Egypt, why not consider the American University in Cairo?

@babaabin1234 do they offer FA?

Maybe look into schools that only consider CR+M or look into schools that are test optional. There are many prestigious colleges that only look at your CR+M. A few that I can think of are UChicago, Cornell and MIT. And a few of the top LACs (Bowdoin and Wesleyan) don’t even require standardized testing.

In any case, your SAT score is nothing to be ashamed of. I only bring up test optional schools and colleges that only look at CR+M because it might make you a bit more competitive.
