My schools online provider, NCVPS, offers AP Physics 1 and 2, but not C. It seems like if one is going into anything math related, like engineering(what I am going into), AP Physics C is the AP Physics class to take. I’ve been looking everywhere, but I can not find any online provider to take it with. I know Stanford High School has it, but it seems like you have to completely transfer there to take a course, and I just wanted to take the one course. Plus, Stanford High School looks pretty competitive, so I am not sure I can depend on getting in. I am taking AP Physics 1 online next year, my junior year, and I really wanted to take AP Physics C senior year to impress colleges, but I am not sure what to do. Should I just take AP Physics 2 instead? Is there an online provider of AP Physics C that I am unaware of? Thanks!
Northwestern also offers it. A friend of mine did the program & said it was great. However, the one downside would be the cost.
Just as a side note, you taking AP Physics C versus AP Physics 2 pales a lot when in comparison to who you are as you can express in your essay. Likewise, course load also pales when contrasted with your grades and GPA. Don’t stress much if you end up not being able to take Physics C even if you do plan on majoring in engineering. My entire senior class actually couldn’t take Physics C due to some circumstances with the school but there were still plenty of successful applications to colleges known for engineering - too many to name.
Also, not sure if you already know this, but make sure your school accepts credit from online providers other than their own (NCVPS).
I highly advise you to forget about taking AP Physics C until you have taken 1 and 2. I am in AP Physics 1 right now and I love it, but let me warn you that it is HIGHLY conceptual. It takes so much time to understand the concepts. If you have taken Algebra 2 honors you will be prepared for the math component, but it still takes time. Also, no matter how competitive the college, they won’t hold it against you if you don’t take a class because your school doesn’t offer it.
Thank you so much to everyone that replied! I might look into northwestern if I can figure out the cost. Otherwise, I suppose I’ll just take AP physics 2, cause it’s better than nothing. And yes, I do beleive my school accepts other programs, you just have to talk to the AIG director. Also, I am currently in pre-calc, and will be taking AP Calc alongside AP physics 1, so hopefully that will be sufficient preparation.
Understandable have a nice day
