In theory you can co-op anywhere. NEU has placed students in co-ops in many states throughout the country, particularly in the northeast. When I was making an online housing deposit for S for next year I saw that there were even housing deposit choices for housing in NYC and in Wash DC so it appears these must be two very popular locations to have housing payment options for them (although the school will help you find housing wherever you go). S is in the process of applying for a co-op this summer/fall and said that there were several postings for his major on the co-op job board in NY, NH, NJ, Conn and other NE states. Of course, this can vary by major but NEU will also help you set up co-ops with employers they do not presently have co-op relationships with if there are specific companies you are interested in working at.

Right now I have one friend co-oping in New York, and one in Colorado. So you can pretty much go anywhere as long as it's approved by your co-op advisor. Also, some people co-op in their home town to save money living at home.

I have a cousin at NEU (class of 2009 on the 5-yr system) who has co-oped in Boston, Colorado, and is planning one somewhere in the East. So yeah, it's versatile.

There are coops in about 40 countries and 40 states in the US. YOu can always create a new coop if you live somewhere there isnt one if you know a company you want to work for.
