Where could I get in??

I am a junior in high school and I don't know which schools I am qualified for. My stats:

GPA: 3.9 UW/4.12 W, but for sophomore-now I have a 4.6 W
SAT: Took on January 22, will post when I get results
ACT: 32 composite, single take
Reading- 36
Math-27
Science-29
Writing-35
Essay 10
I will probably retake this; I did worse on math than I expected to.

Also in top 10% of my class, I'm not sure what my rank is because the semester just ended and I don't know if it changed.

When I graduate, I will have taken 4 APs and 9 IB classes.

ECs:
On a leadership council for the city with a leadership position
CSF (all four years) (trying our for leadership position next year)
NHS
Volunteer at hospital (150 hours and counting)
Golf
Tutoring twice a week
Applied for a prestigious internship at a cancer hospital (will get results in march), and am passionate about biology/medical field
I also take a painting class at a local community college, I don't think this counts for anything but I thought I'd put it out there

Awards:
Winner of regional math competition
I'm assuming I'm national merit commended (208 psat)
Also participating in AMC math competition this year, in sixth grade I got third place but I don't know if this can be used as a prediction for how well I'll do this year...

It would be really helpful if someone could help me out and tell me some schools I might be qualified for

I'm also in IB

“Also taking AMC math competition this year, in sixth grade I got third place but I don’t know if this can be used as a prediction for how well I’ll do this year…”

AMC 8? AMC 10? AMC 12? AIME? USAMO?

Which one do you mean?

I’m taking AMC 12

And what was your score last year? Or when you took it last?

I don’t remember, I took it in sixth and seventh grade but they didn’t offer it at my high school until this year. In sixth grade I got third place in the state and I got a plaque for my school. I know that’s pretty insignificant because it was 5 years ago, but I thought I would include it anyway.

What state?

California

You are going about this the wrong way. Do a little research, decide what kind of school you would like, offering what majors, in what part of the country, city or not, size of student body, interest in sports, etc. What is important to you?

Then, when you have done that, you can start to consider where to apply. This is an important decision- “Where could I get in?” is the wrong question to start with.

If you are good at math, why did you get a 27 on the ACT math and a 29 on the science (which is basically just reading tables)? If this was due to a plethora of silly mistakes, check your work more. If not, I don’t recommend taking the AMC as the easiest problem on it is harder than the hardest one on the ACT.

The highest score for a 6th- (or under) grader on the AMC 12 when you were in 6th grade was ~100, which is nowhere near 3rd in the state (especially in CA). Are you sure you don’t mean you got third in your school? Or third in the state for AMC 8?

Wow guys, thanks for making me feel really good about myself…
Sorry yeah I guess I really suck at math.
I guess I only got third in my school I honestly don’t remember
And I don’t know why I did so badly on math on the ACT that’s why I said I’m retaking it. I’m usually really good at math.
Thanks for being so supportive and friendly.

I don’t think anyone (or at least I didn’t) meant to make you feel bad about yourself. I personally was just a little surprised by your claim to have won AMC 12 in 6th grade (only really IMO winners do that). If you can get over 130 or so on AMC 12, I would say it would greatly help your application. Your math and science scores are a bit low for Ivies, but should be completely fine everywhere else.

I hope this helps.

I didn’t take amc 12 in sixth grade I took amc 8 and thanks

Maybe look at [The University of Chicago](http://uchicago.edu)

You really need to decide which types of schools you like first. What do you want to get from the experience? Where would you like to end up? What would you like to major in? That sort of thing. Only then can you start deciding on schools.
