should I waste my time and apply to HYP and CAltech? (btw I live like 10 minutes away from Caltech... )

yes u should apply to HYP only if u like them that is u have a great chance at all ur schools, including HYP if u decided to apply =) 1500 is fine

heh.. I tell my krn friends to avoid Columbia SEAS... but since it might cause big debate, i will refrain myself.

As for your chances, SEAS should be easy. PRatt, bit unpredictable. I strongly recommend you to take Cornell engineering into serious considertion. Its programs, I dare to say, are better than SEAS.

Cali clearly has 1000 or more top ten schools as every kid on cc goes to one. How are you coming by this ranking? My best guess at top 10 after reviewing CA stats:

Harvard-Westlake

Thatcher

Marl

Cate

Castalleja School

University

Monta Vista

Henry Gun

Menlo School

Cupertino High

Cough, Cupertino High School is top 10? I think you mean Lynbrook.

No.....that list should include saratoga and Gunn first.

Indeed, lollipop27.

no, I think he means Cupertino.
