Also let me mention that the trig course and pre cal course listed in junior year are each a semester course so they don't factor in to my GPA as much. Also under junior year the Graphics Img. Tech II class is worth 2 credits so it counts as 2 A's on my GPA.

My SAT scores: a 730 on my reading, 650 on my math, and 620 on my writing. I am on the varsity ice hockey team, do community service, can list a lot of awards, and have clubs. I am also a minority (asian). With all this stuff listed what are my odds of getting in to UVA? I am in-state and plan on doing early decision.

Match. Excuse me if I am wrong but I just quickly scanned your grades and it seems your A's and B's are split about even so I'm guessing around a 3.7 -3.8 GPA?

Try to raise your SAT scores more because a 1380 is just about the avg of those who got into UVA (from my school in Fairfax) so if you come from a southern county it may be easier for you.

If you aren't from NOVA (northern virginia) you are probably in at UVA but if you are in NOVA, raise the SATs if you can and keep getting good grades. Your chances are probably 55/45 with the current stats if you're from NOVA.

I am in NOVA... i never knew it was supposed to be harder for people in NOVA to get in than people from Southern VA... also I heard that UVA makes it real easy for minorities to get in, so shouldn't that help me a lot?

also you were right my total gpa is at about 3.85 right now with the weights

No because you are asian (not a minority in college's eyes and especially not at UVA-state college).

I don't know if you are familiar with fairfax county in NOVA but when I left my school for the year of 2003 the avg accepted was "3.9 Weighted GPA" and "1380 avg SAT".

Our school sends a lot of kids to UVA and the avg SAT score is around 1250 or so.

Anyways, it seems you are a PERFECT 50/50 since 3.85 weighted ~ 3.9 weighted and 1380 = 1380 using the stats from my HS during 2003. I hear UVA got an increase of apps this year and maybe next year so I would give you a 50/50 shot but with ED probably 55/45 shot (as written in my last post).

Good luck and try to raise your SAT and keep up all A's or something first semester of next year.

PS: If the increase in apps continues at an exponential rate perhaps your chances ED would be a perfect 50/50. It also depends on which school you go to (Thomas Jefferson = you're guaranteed in :))

Which is Thomas Jefferson school? I plan on doing a history major.

If you don't know it then you don't go to it :) It is like the Harvard of high schools in virginia. Avg sat score there is like 1400 and the kids are mostly asian. For them, going to UVA is average (much like kids from my school going to JMU or Vtech).

Oh, i thought you meant like UVA - Thomas Jefferson College of Engineering or something like that lol.... nah I actually live close to TJ but dont go there...

OK, you guys let me change the question. Not if I could get into UVA, but what top 100 universities could I get into with that transcript? I'm not aiming for top 25 like most of you guys, just top 50 or 100. I'm not sure if my confidence is wavering or what but coming to this site has made my transcript seem so crappy that I could never get into a top 25...

why does no one reply to my thread? :(

Why not apply to the Fairfax 8:

UVA

William and Mary

Mary Washington

V-tech

James Madison

George Mason

Radford

Washington and Lee (LAC but I hear you are doing History)

fairfax 8, eh? do you think i'd get accepted into most of those schools? You think I would get accepted into VA Tech?

I think you have a nice chance. By the way, though, Asian is not a minority at most colleges (and at many of the top colleges, it can work against you).

Good luck! I think a few small things (like taking Latin and being on varsity ice hockey) will help set you apart.
