VERY GOOD RECS.

My concern is GPA, I know it is low and I am very disappointed in myself from my Freshman year. Is there anyway I could make the pile for kids to actually be considered for a spot in the schools?

What type of schools could I have a chance to get into, even if its just 5-10%?

Unfortunately, for many of the top schools, your GPA is going to have you out of the running. Your EC’s are pretty good, and your test scores are decent too, but too many other kids have good EC’s, test scores, and GPA. Also, GPA is usually the single most important part of your application as it shows how you’ve performed over all 4 years. In addition, low GPA coupled with high test scores is often a warning sign for a lazy student that is otherwise very intelligent (not saying your lazy, but thats the general case).

With that said, your GPA isn’t absolutely horrible, and if most of the damage was done during freshman year, there may be hope. Some schools do not consider freshman year at all, or place very little emphasis on it. Thus, if the rest of your high school years show great improvement, you may still have a chance at top schools. I don’t necessarily mean Harvard or Stanford caliber (to be frank, I don’t think you have a shot at them or other similar schools), but some respectable schools nonetheless.

Thank you so much guys! The community college near my house is known for being one of the few in the country that gets students into high end schools. It has an honors program that was created by NASDAQ and is full scholarship for two years. They also provide internships in Wall Street.

For transfer admissions, I hear it is merely GPA and essays. Nothing more, nothing less. That being said, for universities such as NYU, Georgetown, Columbia, Wharton, Berkeley, etc… What is the average transfer GPA?

Is Freshman year the only reason your GPA isn’t super high? Many schools ignore Freshman year and only look at 10th and 11th. That might be a good option for you, it could raise your GPA :)
