Is anyone wondering where Jack disappeared to? Jack come back, have some questions for you like where to get D's car fixed.

Atlmom: Do you mean me? Or somebody else? Anyway, if it's me, what's the question? I hope I can help.

yes you, sorry for the shoutout.... I was hoping you could steer me to a reliable mechanic in the area of chapel hill. D's car "sounds funny." I am coming up this weekend and will listen to it. May be simple like fuel filter, airfilter or something more complicated.

Oh, I'll find somebody in Chapel Hill and pass it along to you. I use someone in the next town over, but you probably want somebody closer. I'll find out and get back to you.

either carboro or Chapel HIll are fine....i could take to durham if necessary....any suggestions are appreciated. i will be there until monday noon

not my friend jack but...

My son has used Chapel Hill Tire and Car Care and been very satisfied. They are right on Franklin St as well.

Thanks, eadad. That's probably as good a place as any. I just emailed a friend who lives in town there; he asked what kind of car it is. ?? I told him nothing fancy and foreign, just a car-- that was a guess, so if you tell me your daughter has an Aston Martin or a DeLorean or something similar, then we might be outta luck. He's gonna email me back, but eadad's suggestion should do.

Jack, didnt' mean to trouble you but knew you lived nearby. A friends sister lives there just sent me chapel hill tire as a recommendation also...thanks to both of you for your help!!!!

Atlmom: I have a great mechanic in Raleigh, but know you don't want to drive that far. My Chapel Hill-car mechanic-contact just emailed me and said that Al's Garage in Carrboro is "not cheap, but very good." That's what he recommends. So that's 2 recommendations for you; sounds like Chapel Hill Tire is the way to go, though. Maybe they're cheaper and still good. :)
No problem at all!

Atlmom: Here's one more for you. Another friend of mine wrote back and said she had a great mechanic, named Omar. (Perhaps his brother is the tent-maker.) Here are her exact words: "He owns the BP station at Glen Lennox. He's so nice and totally fair and much less than the dealer is for me. Here's his number: 933-9010."

So there you go. If Chapel Hill Tire doesn't work out, you can go to Al in Carrboro; if he doesn't work out, there's always Omar. :)

No problem, glad I could help. I guess having a son who is now a senior we've faced most of the "ok, what do I do now?" questions...thankfully the worst have been about broken limbs (he can be a klutz) or dented fenders.....knock on wood....

Thanks to both of you for helping me out....she needs to enroll in a good cars 101 course!

I have a daughter at UNC but I also have a son at NC State. I am very interested, Jack, in your recommendation about a mechanic in Raleigh. Do you mind posting it here or PMing me? Hopefully I can figure out the PM feature.

I have been reading the discussion boards for the past year but have never registered before now. You all are great and I have learned so much from this board. I have referred many folks to you.

A big THANK YOU.

planet mom: I sent you a pm.
