On an related but unrelated note, the only good songs on College Dropout are his singles, "Jesus Walks" and "All Falls Down". The album could have been A LOT better. =

No, that whole album is freakin solid.

Have you listened to Two Words? that song is awesome, especially with that violin solo by Miri Ben-Ari.

I kinda like that song hes done with the sample of diamonds are forever.

I liked the song on college dropout with jay-z, I think it was called never let you down. the only song i really hated was kanye's workout plan. that was pretty worthless. other than that, that's one of my favorite rap albums since biggie and tupac died.

ill admit kanyes MUSIC is good, but HE sucks. hes a smart guy and knows that rapping about jesus and the diamond trade in africa is going to win him a lot of respect and praise. however, he is an as shole. if you see him in interviews he's very in to himself and always seems a little tipsy or high. he's very concieted and seems to be rapping about certain subjects cuz he knows that praiseworthy and righteous or whatever, not cuz he genuinely wants to. i dont know, you just have to see him talk and how he carries himself. he seems like a hypocrit. also, i'm not christian fanatic, but i thought it was so retarded when he created that jewelery that was a chain with the face of jesus christ made from gold, silver, and DIAMONDS. haha, what a fake. so now he realized buying diamonds supports violence in africa and other things. congratulations kanye, you're slow. i dunno i just think someone who raps about jesus, but also cusses and raps in other songs about hoes (like "celebrity" with twista) is just out to find the best way to make money, like every other rapper. but at least other rappers dont exploit religion or global issues in their lyrics for self interest, which i think is what he's doing.

i dont really hate kanye or anything, but he just seems like a shady guy to me. hopefully i'm wrong, but i doubt it.

^^ agreed. He does seem like a really conceited guy.

Well I'm the only person I know who isn't impressed with College Dropout so I guess there's just something wrong with me. =P

You make good points coqui. Can't argue with you. Now that you mentioned it, Kanye does seem hypocritical.

But, on a side not, he has a nice name...Kanye. I like the sound...Kon-yay.

LOL Kanye's workout song... that gets me laughing every time. It's just too funny yet so true.

Not all diamonds come from Africa buddy. Maybe you shouldn't be buying shoes since Nike uses sweat shops. If Nike does it, then everyone must do it...right? I don't think Kanye has ever claimed that he is perfect, and he is much better than most rappers by trying to promote good values in most of his songs.

He's a confident guy. What's wrong with that?

uc_benz,
i know not all diamonds come from africa "buddy". kanye's the one rapping about it. and he even talks about his chain in his song. i never said i dont buy diamonds for that reason, that would be kanye honey. and where the hell did nike come from? he's actually not that much better than most rappers. he promotes good value because he knows it will make him more respectable and more money. he's knows what will make people like him more, so he does it. if he had straight up rappin skills, then he should freestyle more often. its nice and all that his lyrics may promote good value, even though its for selfish reasons, but i bet he cant freestyle to save his life. kanye's the type that raps about "good" things, but doesnt really care if he affects people by it, as long as he gets praise, money, and fame from his rhymes.

dcfca,

you can read my previous post for an answer.

Why don't you read my post again, and you'll see where Nike came from. My point was that just because a particular company uses unethical practices doesn't mean everyone else does. Are you going to penalize Adidas becuase Nike uses sweatshops? Probably not. But you are penalizing every place that sells diamonds just because one company in particular uses unethical practices in Sierra Leone.

Wow, you should be a psychologist with that kind of insight! Or better yet, a priest because you lead a flawless life. Kanye West isn't trying to say he is perfect, but rather, he is trying to promote good values in his music. Have you ever heard of Kanye trying to get into a 'beef' with someone? Have you ever heard of Kayne getting caught with illegal drugs? If the worst he is known for is rapping about women, then he has done pretty damn good in his life.

haha. once again for ya...i'm not the one rappin about the whole diamond ordeal...that would be kanye. so why are you saying that i'm penalizing anyone or any company? its a fact that kanye changed the lyrics to "diamonds are forever" after hearing about the diamond trade in sierra leone from another rapper (dont remember his name). so i'm not even talking about me personally hating diamonds and people who buy them. i'm saying that kanye rapped about this not necessarily because he wanted to make it more known and do something about it. its because he had a better idea of how to make the song more succesful and make money.

and as for my quote, it doesnt take a psycologist to realize that. sorry you dont have that much "insight". and i never said i lead a flawless life. haha. where are you getting this from? and yes kanye's had beef with several artists for stealing their beats, like alchemist. just cuz you may only listen to mainstream mtv news doesnt mean it hasnt happened. and kanye's rapped about drugs, so just cuz he hasnt gotten caught with them doesnt mean he doesnt do them. "get em high" ft talib kweli and common is about smoking weed. so yeah theres more evidence that he does do shady stuff. i'm not knockin on the guy for not being perfect, i'm just saying he's a hypocrit cuz he raps about certain things for the wrong reasons.

and he's planning on making a video for every song on his new album. tell me what other motive besides ego, money, and publicity could drive him to do something like that. haha. its kind of funny actually. if he wants to then he can go ahead, its his money. but he's still shady to me. and did you ever see him on punk'd...haha...he acted like an @ss.

I think its any rappers goal to make as much money as possible however much some people try to dress it up.

The album is pretty solid. It does trail off toward the end. The new single is very solid. I think he sounds too produced, though. He's sort of a thinking man's Jay-Z, but I think he could be on par with some of the better underground rappers.

And for what it's worth, I think he knows that not all diamonds come from Africa. At the end of his video, it says something like "Please buy safe diamonds." The word is definitely NOT "safe," but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.

he says please buy conflict free diamonds

Wow, imagine that. Just what I was saying. I'm glad cuqui fully evaluates things before he/she speaks.

haha. unlike some people. and it's "coqui".
