where did the name come from?

Ursinus is named after the German Protestant Reformer Zacharias Ursinus. The church tradition that started Ursinus College (German Reformed, which is now part of the United Church of Christ) is still somewhat related to the college.

I think Ursinus also means 'bear' in latin, if I'm not mistaken... I think I remember my tour guide mentioning it when we passed this semi-huge statue of a bear.

Yep, it does. Ursinus' real last name was "Baer". He took on the Latin "ursus" for the constellation of that name, which is a bear.
