Where Did Your 34 ACT Scoring Child Get Into?

That was the point of my post. As I said, my daughter did get into a bunch of other good schools, she did fine in college, and she’s doing well now. Her sister, with ACT 34, and a lower GPA, also got into several good schools, also did fine in college, and also is doing well now. Except for being stuck in a cab on the way to work.

My D16 had 34 and 4.0 uw. Got in everywhere she applied except Columbia. At Pitt on full tuition scholarship.

D got into a number of great schools with a 34. S got into some good schools with a 33, but he lacked the ECs and leadership to get into a “great” school. Both graduated from college and both have jobs that allow them to live on their own. I consider that a win in parent-land.

As @kelsmom suggests, test scores are only a part of the package, and getting into a good college is only an intermediate objective. My S had 34 ACT but didn’t submit; went with 1570 SAT plus perfect score (no wrong answers) on SAT Math 2. GPA was less than 4.0; not high priority to him (aargh). Admitted to: UChicago, Carleton, Williams, Reed, and UMich. Attended UChicago. Has done extremely well in a multi-phase career since then.

D with 35 ACT, 3.9u/w, in search of full tuition merit or good need based aid back in 2014, got into Wake Forest, UNC CH, W&M, (all no merit, but met need) Villanova w/$15k merit, some need based it was gapped, UDel($7k merit), Clemson w/$18k merit, invited to full ride weekend but did not get), got full tuition/NMF from U Alabama, got Full tuition from URichmond and George Mason . She attends URichmond and doing great.

“both MSU and UofM”??

Michigan? Missisippi? Montana?? There are 8 states that start with an M!

@londondad Defintitely Michigan

Don’t forget. Miami

@jym626 Yeah I made another thread a while ago, but my ACT went up. You must have a REALLY good memory.

Anyway, I just like these kinds of threads. I like hearing about other kids’ successes, is that really so bad?

DS had ACT 35 but GPA 3.7. Light on ECs and APs.

Accepted at Carnegie-Mellon (attending – v. happy), University of Rochester, RPI, WPI, Northeastern, RIT.

Rejected at Cal Poly SLO, Boston U. (also rejected from some high reaches, but no surprise there)

So high ACT doesn’t guarantee admission, nor does so-so GPA close all doors.

I agree with the OP
Why do some posters start talking down, dismissing, and get preachy when such a Q is asked? (in the process bringing up EVERY topic the OP might have ever created!!!)

Some veteran posters immediately assume the OP is uneducated uninformed and clueless and plans to hold the college responsible if their child/him/her does not get acceptance with a 34 ACT
Why?
Why cant a parent/student ask a simple Q “Where did your child get into with X ACT or Y SAT?” without being scrutinized/over analyzed/given a Ph D thesis on what elite colleges look for?

Why is everyone so quick to remind the parent “Oh BTW 34 ACT doesnt mean any thing its usually the 46
other things or 68 other things the colleges look at. Dont rely on ACT, its holistic those kids have million other talents”

How do so many responders assume the poster is “assuming”?

How does it matter which Univ of “M”

Why does everyone believe such a Q must always posted by a clueless parent/student?
Why cant an INFORMED parent/student ask such a q?
Is there rules against asking such a Q?
For example:
Why do we have things like Cost of Living indicators for a city?
Everyone that looks at CoL knows not every family in the city spends the published number.

But yet… responders on CC are always reminding people of what NOT to do…

Why do so many folks on CC quickly jump in to convince the OP in such topics test scores mean nothing?
As long as no body is being hurt or abused or no CC laws being broken, why so much energy is being spent on dissuading such a OP?

I’m sure this criticism was directed at me…so I am going to respond.

I asked “why” because sometimes the context of a question frames the types of responses the OP hopes to get.

If this is just a question about places 34 ACT kids got accepted…so be it.

@thumper1 I’m well aware that I can’t get into an amazing school with my GPA/Rank

I literally just wanted to know where 34 ACT scoring kids got in.

@BoiDel Thank you. People here love to be critical of literally everything.

I don’t think I ever mentioned your GPA or rank. Someone else did that.

As you can see…a 34 ACT score has gotten some great acceptances…and unfortunately some rejections as well.

That 34 ACT is terrific…really terrific. There are plenty of colleges where this score will help your student gain acceptance.

My daughter had a 34 ACT ranked fourth in her class had an UW GPA of about 3.97 and a weighted of 4.68. She applied and was accepted ED to Rice.

re: posts # 29 and 30,
Asking about where students got in relative to their standardized test scores only is a very myopic way of looking at the admissions process. As most are well aware, there are many variables that go into the admissions process, so asking this question seems to sound like either idle curiosity, limited understanding of the process or possibly can be seen as a humble brag.

No it doesn’t take a "wonderful memory " to have to go look up past posts to find more stats for the OP because they didn’t provide the information, and it does not appear that anyone looked at all their past posts, though there is absolutely nothing wrong with that if they did. In this case (1) this is a student (posting in the parents forum) and (2) it does look either somewhat limited in the understanding of the process, or maybe a bit nosy.

post #30 seems to better belong in the “say it here” thread.

Moderators note:

closing thread. Going off track. Op has not provided any useful information other than scores. If s/he is seeking help where they have a chance of being admitted, then straight up ask the question.
