1970 SAT M630 R620 W720
3.7 unweighted GPA, competitive HS

Hook:worked with special needs athletes, intern with cape cod baseball league, and then a bunch of school stuff, honors society etc, baseball, newspaper, and other clubs, fundraisers, volunteer work

admitted Univ of Richmond, had local very good interview, College of Charleston honors (where he will attend), Quinnipiac, URI, UCONN, UMASS,

Waitlisted GW, AU, NE, Wake Forest (bad interview), will not pursue any of these

My child has similar stats but would like to stay in the west coast. I’d love to hear from parents whose kids applied to the schools in the west coast, California in particular.

My daughter-- ACT 30, SAT 1980 (CR 720, M 630, W 630), GPA 4.16 weighted, 6 AP classes
EC’s OK, great essay, hooks–from West Virginia maybe? everyone here goes to state schools 'cause it’s free if you have a B average and decent ACT scores. Seriously, 6 out of 350 kids are going out of state in her graduating class

Bluestatemom here - sorry for my confusing post (#145) My daughter received 73K at Wheaton (MA) over 4 years (17,500 per year, plus 3K for a summer project). She received 36K over 4 years at U of R (9K per year).

Just a note - remember, most schools consider only your Math and Critical Reading scores for merit. So, your child can have a 1980 SAT, but if M and CR add up to 1290, he/she will likely not get as much as another student with 1980, who has a M and CR score of 1370.

SAT: CR = 740 / M=670 / WR =670
SAT II’s = all over 700
GPA = 3.6 weighted / 4.1 unweighted (an incredible upward trend Jr & Sr year - 4.0 unweighted and 4.7 weighted for Jr & Sr year)
Class Rank = 17/500+
AP’s = will have competed 6 AP class by graduation. Already has some scores with nothing lower than a 4.
Course Rigor = AP, honors, and a few regular classes freshman & sophmore year.
EC’s = Varsity athlete, NHS, Language Honor Society, Works with disabled children, leadership roles in several clubs, Boys State (elected official while at Boy’s State), Hospital Volunteer, Model UN…there are some more but I am not remembering everything at this point.

Accepted with Merit Award:Tulane,Fordham,University of Vermont,Rollins,Gettysburg, and
Northeastern

Accepted:University of Florida & Macalester

Waitlisted:Oberlin

Denied:Carleton (after being deferred in ED and having the support of athletic coach - HIGHLY BITTER about this one think very, very poorly of this institution and the lack of integrity exhibited by the coach. Beware folks - beware)

D. went to state school 5 years ago with 2140 (which she did not use as her ACT was a bit better). Currently is in Med. School. She was not aspired to go to Elite school, did not apply to any. instead, went to state on full tuition Merit scholarship to save us money so that we can pay for her Med. School, very smart choice.

Oooops! I made a mistake thus the re-posting. Also would like to add that Gettysburg is the front runner as of today. They made an incredible financial offer - highly impressed with how Gettysburg has handled everything (interview, tour, financial offer etc…)

SAT: 2000/ Act 29 (one sitting)

Accepted with Merit: Emory, Rochester, Macalester

Rejected: Pomona, Dartmouth (expected but wanted to try)

borertine,
if you think that 2100 is very different from 2140, sorry to dissapoint, it is not for college admission (yes 2140 - 2100 = 40, so there is a difference according to math, which does not exist for adcoms).

SAT: 2050
ACT 30
SAT II’s high 600’s

Drexel-highest merit aid
Rensealyer (sp?)-waitlisted
Carnegie Mellon-SCS program-not admitted

Again, you are incorrect. I posted a quiz. I make no claim to be the boss of anything. The only influence I have is for people who choose to respond to my quiz. Thus far, you are the sole examinee. Nobody else attempted the quiz. So despite two incorrect answers, you are currently at the 99+ percentile.

In her haste to mention yet again about her daughter’s very smart decision to attend a state school on a full scholarship so her parents could pay for her med school, MiamiDAP must have overlooked the OP’s original post, which was very specific.

Not only did MiamiDAPkid score above the range specified, she graduated outside of the past two or three years. I don’t believe I saw which other schools she applied to and her admissions results, either. But thanks for the reminder about your D’s strategy, MiamiDAP. I had almost forgotten since you’ve been away and haven’t posted recently. :)
