Where did your SAT 2100-2200 child get in?

I know there was a similar thread with a range of 1950-2100. However, I wanted to create this thread because it seems that most people believe that the ideal SAT range for the top schools is a 2200+. I feel like everyone in the 2100s gets lost in the mix. It stinks to be so close to that ideal range, but not quite there.

Please share which schools your child, if they scored in the 2100-2200 range, was accepted/rejected at.

Don't forget to mention whether he or she had any special hooks, applied ED, or got in later off the waitlist.

Bumping this…

2160
The Honors College at my flagship.
Colgate
Macalester–attending

My cousin:

2150 SAT
34 ACT

Accepted to Harvard, Columbia, Brown, and UCLA (probably more).

She lived in a foreign country at the time of application, which probably helped her a little.

2160, applied RD to all, no special hooks

Accepted: Northwestern (attending), U of Michigan, U of Wisconsin, U of Colorado, U of Denver

Waitlisted: Notre Dame, Colorado School of Mines (decided not to stay on the waitlist of either)

2100-2200 do not get lost in the mix. They are admitted to HYPSM…the rest of the IVY’s, MIT, CALTech, the top LAC’s and all of the other top unis — as well as honors colleges at almost every state university. If you look at the admitted student threads for top schools…and lots of other schools…you will see that 2100 -2200 SAT students do exceptionally well.

College admissions depends on GPA too. 2100-2200 with 3.6 uw GPA has different results from 2100-2200 with 4.0 uw GPA. It also depends on how many APs, ie course rigor, etc…

2140 - top 6% of class, but B+ to A- average in academic courses.

Got into: Tufts, U of Chicago (EA), Vassar, American
Rejected: Brown, Harvard (legacy), Georgetown (SFS - applied EA deferred to regular round, but they don’t reject anyone early)

He was very happy with his acceptances and considered the schools that rejected him extremely long shots.

Our son -
2160, ACT 33, 4.0+ co-val, took 7 AP’s of 8 offered); Applied to Arts & Sciences with an undecided major -
Accepted Northwestern, Georgetown, OSU Honors, Miami (OH) Honors, waitlisted Johns Hopkins, Vanderbilt; rejected Harvard, Yale, Duke, Stanford. No hooks. All RD.
Attending Georgetown University (College - A&S)

S with a 2180 SAT/32 ACT and a 3.25 GPA did not do well.

Accepted: Marquette (attending with over 30K in merit aid), Xavier, Pitt, Bryant, Seattle, James Madison, Loyola Chicage, UMass. Waitlisted: Bentley. Denied: Washington and Lee, William and Mary, Babson, Lehigh. Got merit aid at most schools he was accepted to.

Took most rigorous courseload available at his school. GPA definitely hurt him.

A student with these scores could get in anywhere, depending on other factors such as grades, “character,” background, and extracurricular talents and activities. Top schools are not looking for a campus full of kids with 750-800 SAT’s (though a student should be able to do the work). They want an interesting mix of people on campus, as a whole.

^

2100 has a chance just about anywhere, even without a hook. The rest of the app has to be very good of course, but that’s true anywhere.

My youngest D (only kid whose numbers I still remember):
2120 SAT, 3.7 GPA

Accepted: Bryn Mawr, Skidmore, Kenyon, Mt. Holyoke, and BU (actually offered some merit money)
Rejected: Washington University, Barnard, and Vassar

^That Vassar result is probably the difference between being a boy and a girl.

BTW son mentioned above got a great merit scholarship at American.

Me with 2150 SAT and 3.86 GPA.

Accepted: Smith, BU, Hendrix, St. Edward’s, UT Austin (auto admit)
Waitlisted: Vassar
Rejected: Carleton

Me with 2140 SAT and 3.8 GPA (4.2 weighted) instate Virginia

Accepted: UVA (attending), Virginia Tech, William and Mary, University of Pittsburgh
Rejected: Duke

D with 2120 SAT and a 3.96 UW GPA

Accepted: Northwestern(attending), USC, Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCD, U of Michigan, U of Wisconsin, and BU(with Merit aide)

Rejected: Brown

S with 2170 SAT, Class Rank 7/392 at large public high school (UW GPA over 96)

Accepted:
Davidson (attending)
Vassar
Tufts
Oberlin
Northeastern Honors
Lewis & Clark

Waitlisted:
WashU

A good amount of merit and/or financial aid at most of them.
