Where do "average" kids go??

My dd is a senior. She has a 3.9 UW GPA. 1800 on first attempt at SAT's and a 29 on the ACT. She wants to go to a school in a big city. So far her favorite is University of Seattle. Can you all recommend any other colleges/universities that might take someone with her stats? She prefers small 2000-7000 kids. Anywhere as long as it's in a metro area. Thanks.

Oh…she only took 2 AP courses in high school and under 50 hours of community work. Also Key Club. She is a dedicated ballerina. Not much extra-curricular compared to most.

Just for the record, a 3.9UW GPA is hardly average, neither are her test scores. It might be intimidating to compare those stats to the self-reported ones on CC, but she ought to have many options.

My daughter had almost identical stats. She applied to and was accepted to Santa Clara University, U of San Diego, and U of South Carolina…all in cities. SC sounds too big for your kiddo but the others are not.

Agree with GoldenWest… this is not an ‘average’ student.

It might also help if you provide some financial insight, such as, will the student need financial aid? Or will the student be full pay?

Your DD by no means average! Based on my recent experience with my DS, she would be a slam dunk at U of Seattle with those stats. It’s a beautiful school BTW. How about Fordham in NYC? Or U of San Francisco or Loyola Marymount or Santa Clara U or Chapman U? She would probably get merit aid at some of these schools with her stats. Good luck!

I forgot Lewis & Clark in Portland. And USD as mentioned by another poster.

Your daughter is not even close to average. She scored better than 90% of all [ACT test takers](<a href=“ACT Test Scores | ACT Scoring | ACT”>ACT Test Scores | ACT Scoring | ACT) and a 3.9 UW GPA is nearly perfect.

Average is around a 3.1 UW (for females), a 20 ACT, and a 1500 SAT. Believe me, your daughter can choose from almost any college in the country (although finances might be an issue).

Chapman has a great dance department I hear.

Also, ballet is her EC–and it is an impressive one if she is fairly accomplished. For many colleges she can submit a video supplement that features her in a performance or even just doing a variation in studio. No admissions officer will expect someone seriously committed a single EC to have a lot of time for the typical mix of outside activities that other students have. At least I hope not, because my daughter also has dance as her only EC.

How big a city is your D interested in? Does she want to continue to dance in college?

Congrats! Your D sounds like an amazing student and should have quite a number of great options, including merit $$ for some.

WHAT COLLEGES CAN I GET INTO WITH A 29 ACT SCORE?
[Score of 29 on the ACT, colleges you can get into with a ACT score of 29](http://www.collegesimply.com/guides/29-on-the-act/)

Are you in Washington State? Seattle U is in a great location and it has a really pretty campus. She might also like the University of Portland but she would have to use public transportation to get to the heart of the city.

Good luck with the college search!

I don’t think she would get significant merit aid at Santa Clara…but they do have a theater and dance department. I don’t know about it, but the music ensembles were open to all students.

She has a lot of options…not the tippy top schools, but certainly HUNDREDS of other schools! And very good ones too!

University of Denver comes to mind…what are her academic interests? Intended major?

I noticed you mentioned nursing earlier…take a look at Case Western- great nursing program and numerous resources right on/ adjacent to campus, including University Hospitals and the Cleveland Clinic.

University of Portland?

Is your daughter going to Seattle U’s Fall Preview Day this weekend? My son went last year and found it very informative. They also have another Preview Day in November.
If your daughter is willing to consider LACs, Occidental College comes to mind.

Sarah Lawrence?

Can you tell us what it is about this school that makes it number one so far?
