Where do average students attend college?

Guilford College is located in NC. It has a beautiful campus and is known for accepting quirky students who are intelligent in ways other than standardized tests. Class size is usually around 20 or less. (My Physics class this semester has 45 people, which is ridiculously large for a Guilford class.) Anyway, it's in the Southeast. :P

Can anyone with knowledge post suggestions please.I am looking for a private college or University that is preppy leaning small to medium in size NOT a party school NOT political has good business program good d2,d3 baseball programs.I come from a tough private high school in the Northeast and have 83.76 core unweighted average weighted 85 two college credit math classes no fluff classes at all throughout high school will have a 90 Plus average senior year very competitive college prep curriculum. Not looking for diversity emphasis colleges or programs, I like suburban or rural locations .I have just average SAT/ACT scores but am a very hard working student very involved in my academics not a slacker at all. I am a white hispanic male, baseball athlete Left Handed Pitcher and Ice Hockey player as well as a 5th degree black belt martial artist.I have a tremendous amount of volunteer service hours as well as job experiance. Is there any school in the southeast for me or is all hope lost. All I read on this forum is 2100 SAT or 36 ACT and 4.1 gpa’s it’s very discouraging to read please do not suggest community college I am looking for a four year college and no state school.I am very confused because in my school unless you have a 95 average in each class every semester you will not be allowed to take honors or AP classes in any subject and if you are found to be struggling in any of those classes they kick you out and put you in the Regents class yet in my friends public school they can take any AP class they want at four different levels plus they get extra help if they struggle also any body can take honors classes if they want they tell me how those classes are a joke they are so easy they also cannot believe how hard my classes are and how much work I always have.Kind of angers me now that we are all applying to colleges they are looking for the easiest school possible the most important thing to them is how big is the party scene is. I ask myself do colleges know the difference between school profiles and the difficulty level from one school to an other.

can you please re-write your post so we can read it?..
separate by stats, extra curricular etc…

my head is hurting trying to read it…

also, since this thread is two years old (the OP’s son is at College of Charleston I think), maybe a better idea would be to start one of your own on the Parents Forum

You have an 85 GPA now. What makes you think you can get a 90+ senior year with a more difficult class selection? You say you don’t want a state school. What can your family afford?

All of Chippy’s posts are written this way! Also some are written with the statement “My Son” or as “I”. So are you a student or are you a parent? Run on rambling sentences are indeed very difficult to read & with no punctuation!

Chippy, you’re asking whether all hope is lost?

Well, it will be if you substitute one huge block of solid granite text for your admissions essay - guaranteed. Don’t do it man!

If he is interested in many different things and wants a liberal arts education, I would suggest St. John’s. St. John’s is pretty easy to get into, too.

Another old thread, going back to 2008.

Why not try to get into a smaller campus of your state school, get a decent GPA, then transfer to the main campus. That way he gets to start off in a small environment and eventually earn a solid degree. I think that is a better option then going to a 2nd/3rd tier LAC.

UNC Asheville is a great school! My son is considering it, too. Best of luck to your son. :)

Are y’all in NC? There are so many great options here. Western Carolina is another one – awesome location!

@froggie–one of my graphic designer colleagues got a full ride to Guilford College back in the day. She loved it! It has an excellent reputation here in NC. :)

@chippy – look into Belmont Abbey College (a Catholic school) in Belmont, NC. They have DivII baseball, and IIRC they offer athletic scholarships. :)
