Where do you find the % of aid a college will meet?

Remember that need can be met through any combination of loans, work study and grants.

You can also look up your school on the collegeboard's website. click the cost and financial aid tab

As Sybbie said the CB is very good for this. It also gives a breakdown of what percentage of grant money you can expect, and what percentage of loans you can expect within the package.

Thanks for all the help. My son is going to Miami Oxford and we have not received our financial aid packet yet. I just wanted to know what I was in for. College board said the Miami meets 75% grants & scholarships and 25% loans/jobs. Our EFC is $1950.00 and I am hoping we will not have alot of loans.

According to the college board. the cost of attendance at Miami Oxford is $32,428

COA- EFC = demonstrated need

32428-1950=30,478 demonstrated need.

the school says that it meets 78% of your demonstrated need.

30,478 * .78 = 23,772

30478 - 23772 = 6705 (unmet need or gap in the financial aid package which you will have to find a way to fill.

Baed on the need that they do meet, $23,772, it would be broken down as follows:

grant aid 17,830 (this would be pell, SEOG, if eligible and college grants
loans/work study $5,943, at minimum a subsidized stafford loan of $2625, maybe 1500 in work study and another 1800 in perkins loans.

factors which may change your aid package,

If your son is in-state, he could be eligible for the Ohio Resident Scholarship and Ohio Leader Scholarships together, amounts range from $10,000 to $11,250 depending on need.

Need-based aid
determined by:
Academics
Art
Athletics
Leadership
Minority Status
Music/Drama
State/District Residency

Depending on whether or not your son is at the top of the applicant pool or a candidate that the school is really trying to pull, then the grant aid could be more.

Is son a NMS, this could change the face of his FA package also.

hope this helps.

Your son should be working right now (if he does not have a job) and try to increase his hours over the summer to earn some money, and reduce his expenses (save the $$) to fill the gap in his FA package.

hope that this helps

Thank you that helps so much. Yes he is In-State and he has been looking for a part time job. But he is not a NMS. Thanks again for all your help.
