Thanks Marite, I'm seriously considering Bowdoin. I think I might email Bowdoin.. you know..

And uhmm... hrmm... do the new SAT scores change any sort of way my chances for Georgetown, even in the slightest bit? I remember you said something about it looks like me not being able to handle the rigor of the SFS verbal curriculum -- nevertheless, I got the 700 with no prep at all.. :)..

On the side, I'd like to announce that tomorrow is "Camp-in Day."

Normally, I would have a drill meet, or I could go hang out with some friends.. however... I will work on apps until my fingers get rusty and my back becomes aching. Creativity is the easy part, composition is the hard one.

Did I really say that? Wow! A 680 is a fine score! 700 is statistcally the same, but there is a small psychological advantage, a bit like $9.99 seeming less expensive than $10.00.
I don't know that your new SAT score will change things much at Georgetown, but you have another couple of months to burnish your profile: Think of it as giving yourself more chance to strengthen your application (s). Perhaps some more (different) recs, some more recognitions and awards, a slighlty improved GPA, a supplemental essay?
For the moment, though, concentrate on the apps that need to be sent out by Dec. 31.

Do you think that they could have possibly used the mid-year report my counselor sent? Or did they just bank that until the RD cycle?

P.S. My real name's Andrew. Tlaktan just sounds so awkward when parents are talking to me. Strangers on the internet, maybe, but no need for psuedonyms in the midst of a friendly parent community. :)

I don't know how your school functions. It seems different from my S's. His issues a first quarter report in November, then a second quarter report in January, another one in April and a final report in June. The January report is what I think most colleges consider the mid-year report. Depending on when your own report was sent, it may have been considered, or it may have come too late to be included, though I understood that adcoms do everything they can to include as much material as they receive.
The important thing, though, is for you to think ahead, not to conduct any more post-mortems. You have a chance, I assume, to have another report that will be part of your RD app. This is what you should focus on: making sure that you keep up your GPA or even improve on it, writing out the apps, looking again at your essays, etc... I forget if your GC is helpful or if he is overwhelmed. If he can be of assistance, he might call the adcom at Gtown and advocate for you. It won't reverse the deferral, but it will be helpful in the RD round.

This is really a boost from that Georgetown downer I suffered this week.

And uhmm, momof2inca, have I ever told you that inca thing is starting to look more and more like that Mesoamerican civilization that got wiped out by Pisarro?

I know how you feel (or at least, how you did feel). I was deferred from my top school, while TWO of my friends got into that specific schools and just about ALL of my friends were ACCEPTED into their earlies. I just feel awful when I see them celebrating about being free of almost all obligations. What's worse is that a lot of them are going on a trip together during Winter Break, while I have to stay home and finish apps. The feeling is truly horrible.

BUT, I agree with most of the other people here. I'm still pushing forward despite this MAJOR disappointment. I still have hope, especially since I JUST saw my new SATII score (much better). Rejuvenated hope is a good feeling :)

Thanks a lot achat. :).. It's good to see some relief in this storm of college admissions..

Because of finaid reasons, if it comes down to the school's I've been accepted to thus far, I think Notre Dame wins over UMich.

And as far as other schools I'm applying to, I may try Princeton. It's a VERY LONG SHOT, I know. Probably impossible, but then again, you have a 100% chance at rejection if you never apply.

I've always long admired Princeton from afar. My mom was a volunteer director for this foundation for preserving the history of the first President of Korea, and he was a graduate of Princeton. It's always been the most appealing to me out of HYPS, so I will give it a shot.

The location is great too, plus the Woodrow Wilson School is nothing to scoff at.

Still keeping the fingers crossed for Georgetown.

Now that you have completed the tutorial and know how to move, talk to strangers and use items, you must follow me on a quest across vast pixelated lands to recover an ancient artifact that can easily fit within your palm!
