Where do i stand for college?

I took April SAT and got a 2240 740 Reading 750 Math and 750 Writing. I thought I scored higher in math but I dont think im going to retake it. I have a 3.87/4.00 unweighted GPA in all honors and APs, never gotten below a 5 on an AP, varisty sport letters, I am active participant in science research and have won several awards, at least one being nationally recognized. I guess my hook would be research because that is what i dedicate most of my time but i also participate on the debate team, mock trial team, and all the honor societites offered to me. And i dont know if they care but i volunteer in an ER room. Although my gpa is a little low, i go to manhasset high school which was ranked the 30th best high schoo last year when it was on austerity so i think its understandable to ahve a lower gpa. I am undecided about premed or bussiness. Could anyone help me with where i stand for colleges? Any suggesitons on what else i should write about so you can help me more? responses would be apprecaited!

please help me i have no idea

you should get in to some pretty good colleges. check out the stats of the schools you're interested in and see how you stack up..

You are definately in a good position with a decent GPA and impressive SAT scores. My recommendation to you would be to talk to your counselor about good schools, research around places like this for valuable information, but most of all (this will sound cliche and stupid, but it's true) explore yourself. The hardest part of the process is figuring out what you want to do. It doesn't have to be specific, and it definately does not have to be written in stone, but you do need some sort of direction. It sounds like you have the direction (business and premed), and now your task would be to find high ranked colleges -- since I believe you have a good chance to get into them -- and pick out the ones that fit you best.

If you want suggestions, give information on where in the country you are willing to go, potential majors, whether you prefer urban, rural, or suburban, whether you need financial aid or how much your parents are willing to spend, whether you want a quiet campus or a party/sports scene, etc.

i'm not really sure cos i heard that international students have a hell of a time trying to get in. and my SAT scores are low compared to many of the ppl here.. grateful for help!

MLevy, you really need to answer OneMom's questions before people can give you good recommendations.

But I'm going to suggest something anyway, based on the one really specific piece of information you've given us -- namely, your interest in both pre-med and business.

Check out Cornell.

Cornell claims that a student can complete its undergraduate business major and do the pre-med requirements at the same time. See http://business.aem.cornell.edu/academics/index.htm and look on the right side of the page.

Your statistics are in the ballpark for Cornell, and since the business major is part of the agriculture school, which is state-supported, your tuition would be relatively low because you are an in-state student.

MLevy, for a pre-med/Business major with your impressive credentials, I recommend the following universities very highly (excellent overall academics, excellent business school and excellent overall college experience):

Cornell University (AEM)
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan)
University of California-Berkeley (Haas)
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (Ross)
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (Kenan Flagler)
University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
University of Virginia (McIntire)

You really cannot beat those schools for undergraduate Business, great overall academics, excellent pre-med opportunities and incredible overall undergraduate experience.

Other excellent options:
Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper)
Emory University (Goizueta)
Georgetown University (McDonough)
New York University (Stern)
University of Notre Dame
University of Southern California (Marshall)
Washington University (Olin)

I'd be shocked if you didn't get into at least half of these top 15 Business program above. The beauty with those schools is that they also happen to have top medical schools or top Biology departments...or both.

If you are willing to settle for Economics, it opens up many more opportunities, like:

Amherst College
Brown University
Claremont McKenna College
Columbia University
Dartmouth College
Davidson College
Duke University
Grinnell College
Harvard University
Haverford College
Johns Hopkins University
Middleburry College
Northwestern University
Oberlin College
Pomona College
Princeton University
Stanford University
University of Chicago
Wesleyan University
Williams College
Yale University

i am willing to go anywhere in the country potential majors are chemistry, biology, economics, i perfer urban and suburban but dont mind rural i dont NEED financial age but it can help and my parents want to send me the best place i can go. i dont really care about size but i guess perfer smaller schools. i would like any type of school because i belive you make the experience at your school not the school but i dont want to go to an entirely quiet/lame school at all. I follow college sports so i guess d1 would be exciting but i dont need that.

can anyone hlep me after i posted the other info?

pretty pretty pretty please help!

What other info? You pretty much said you are open to everything! LOL Seriously, check out the list of 35 universities I mentioned above and narrow it down to 10 or so schools.

do you think i can theoretically get into all those schools?

No, I think you have a shot at all those places, but you will probably only get into half of the schools you apply to, assuming you apply to a healthy # of reaches, matches and safeties.

do i have a good chance at all of them like i dont know what a reach would be and whats realistic

i dont think im harvard or yale material considering a kid in my school had 3.99 1600 on old sat and all like same stuff as me got rejected from both but he is a cocky arrgont s.o.b. so his essays might have done him in so i dont know

so what would be a reach out fo those schools?

How is a 3.87 UW GPA low? What does that translate to in class rank? That would have been higher than #1 ranked in my class of 300. I would say you would be in the running for all schools (granted in the running at HYP is a 10% chance). I would say pick one you like enough that you would be satisfied there and apply ED.

i go to a very competitve school but it doesnt do class rank
