Where do I stand?

Applied to CUNY Baruch, University of Rochester, Boston College, Boston University, University of Miami and New York University… Currently accepted to Rutgers

At a community college in New Jersey… I have a 4.0 with 24 credits in mostly good classes that colleges like to see for transfer applicants… I did take a couple Business electives though… I obtained two letters from Business professors that I believe are pretty solid… I did not do well in High School for personal reasons and it has taken me some time to get back into school… I addressed this in most of my essays when appropriate and I tried to avoid seeming desperate for sympathy… I can’t know for sure but I believe the essays are well-written.

My other question is this: How important is it to go to undergraduate business school? I spoke with an advisor at Boston College who told me that without Calculus taken, I will most likely be rejected by CSOM. I’m now in a position where I’m wondering how essential it is for me to go to Business School if I want to work in Finance.

If anyone can offer perspective I would really appreciate it. Currently struggling to understand where I really stand. Getting accepted to Rutgers feels like a good sign (only school I’ve heard back from thus far) but then again I live in New Jersey and this community college is affiliated with the school.

Thanks so much

To work in finance, you need a high level of math. A transfer to a business school will need to have, at a minimum, Calculus 1.
(For instance, you can’t enter Zicklin, Baruch’s business school, if you don’t have at least a C in Calculus 1).
You’ll likely need to spend one semester “catching up”, but it’s not too bad :).
You don’t need to major in finance to work in finance, but you’d need to major in math or something similar which requires strong quantitative skills.
You’re in at Rutgers: congratulations!
