Where do I stand?

Current Transferable GPA- 3.73 if my calculations are correct. They were 3.68 with a B in an remedial English class, but I cut it edited it out.

EC: None! But I have been working the whole time and my mother is a widow. I am also getting married in December so I don't know how that will effect me with financial aid or my application (I will be 22)

I am wondering if I have enough phil classes and/or if it looks like I'm cramming them all at the last minute. What are my chances and am I paranoid for planning to apply to all the UCs? Is speech a good choice for that last class or should I get another Philosophy class. Help me forum warriors! Much thanks to anyone who read this wall of text.

i’d say you’ve got a 95% chance at ucla

Last year the average accepted GPA for philosophy was 3.49

[Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2009 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof09_mjr.htm)

you do have a big hole in your application with the no EC’s though (sorry about your loss and congrats on the engagement). But if you explain your situation in your personal statement and tell them you’re commitments you should be fine. However…don’t by any means leave all the spaces for EC’s blank.

Best of luck and welcome to the forum

you have a very strong chance of admittance to UCLA. as far as additional classes to take I think it would look best if you stuck to classes pertaining to your major. personally I don’t think the lack of EC’s will have much of an effect on your chances. you mentioned you worked the entire time. I have heard from several admissions advisors (UCLA included) that they actually prefer consistent employment with indications of leadership and growth over random clubs and activities when it comes to transfer students.
I don’t think you have to worry…it’s looking good for you. Best of luck and hopefully I’ll be joining you at UCLA! =D

Thanks anonymouser that makes me feel better. I’ll be staring down that little 5% until I get April though. Thanks for your sentiments as well. I also help my fiance’s father with his small business (worked for free)

I hope you’re right too SeeHerFly. I am already taking two philosophy classes that semester so I was wondering if it would look bad and argument sounds fun. I also hope they don’t care that my consistent employment was at a supermarket as a cashier. Good luck to you too. My fiance seems to get mad every time I mention the possibility of not getting it and having to move, so if I don’t post again she may have murdered me ;).

If anyone has anymore insight I would appreciated it. Any more flaws that could be pointed out would be useful.
