Hi, I am currently a freshman in highschool and I want to get into UCLA. I know the first thing I need is a really good SAT score. I will start soon taking SAT prep classes but I want to start on my own. I am not sure of what my current standings are on weakness and such so where do I start?! Thank you.
@Rachel222 the first thing you need is good grades.
I agree with MITer – the SAT is second or third in the chronological list of things you should be doing.
- Grades -- do your best, put forth your maximum effort.
- Extracurriculars -- join clubs, groups, and activities that interest you and are fun.
- PSAT -- take it sophomore year for practice and junior fall for real.
- SAT or ACT -- take it junior and senior year, maybe one to three times.
As stated above Grades and ECs are more important for you but…
I’d def recommend downloading the SAT Question of the Day app or something similar to that… so that when you have a couple minutes here or there, you can take a look at the type of questions on the test
Yes I know I need good grades and extracurricular activites so far that has been working out very well but I am just wondering where do I start prepping on my own? Do you recommend any books to purchase and so on? Thank you.
- Diagnostic Test
- Barron’s NEW PSAT guide - I know its not an SAT guide but it covers really everything on the SAT in a very very concise manner
- Khan Academy
def use khanacademy
Are you a CA resident? Because if not you will be paying OOS tuition, which is very expensive.
