CSS profile, FAFSA, tax returns...I've heard it all! But I have no clue where to start filing for financial aid!!! I've registered for the CSS profile. What do I do next? Complete and send CSS? When does FAFSA come in? Are those forms the only ones I need to fill out?

Do the FAFSA. Do any other forms required by your colleges. Some required the CSS Profile. Some require their own finaid form. You need to check with each school. ALL have their own deadlines (and you MUST meet their deadlines) for completion of the finaid applications. The only way to know is to check with each college.

Since every school will require the FAFSA, do the FASA first. Then organize yor stuff according to date needed. It is best howerever to start eary since once your forms are submitted the school (s) may have other questions/ forms. Most schools will also want verification of income which includes W-2's and your parents signed taxes

Thumper and Sybbie...
Thank you so much for the quick replies! So I should start with the FAFSA (ASAP, I guess), and then CSS profile, and then individual forms?

The hardest part is getting organized and getting started. You'll need to gather all tax and financial related data. The 2004 tax forms are available online at many post offices. The FAFSA and CSS Profile forms really don't take much time to do. Both online forms have worksheets and checklists of materials you'll need.
