Hey guys,

I'm a college freshman currently at the University of Michigan. I'm looking to major in Finance or Management in the Ross Business School. I am not in the business school yet (I apply in the spring) but I'm currently searching for opportunities for an internship in the summer. I'm very thick-skinned and i've already run into alot of trouble simply trying to find people willing to listen to a freshman not in the business school. I've read alot about various programs like SEO but i'm confused exactly how to begin my search.

I've previously held a position as an internship for Ameriprise working with financial advisors over my summer between high school and college. At the time, I thought this was something special (I got it through alot of cold-calling and blindly mailing coverletters/resumes). Looking back, it was totally useless and gave me very little experience in what I want to do. In the long run, i'm hoping to get into Private Equity or Hedge Fund. However, I realize that may be a little to ambitious of a stretch to make as college undergraduate. Therefore, i'm looking for the best way to improve my resume and what to do with my oncoming summer.

My current options are:

1.) Take more classes (really don't want to do this)
2.) UROP (easy to get and helps resume somewhat but it has downfalls)
3.) Obtain an internship (would LOVE this)

I'm looking to try to do option 3. Where should I start? I've already explored my colleges Career Center and it's basically useless as a freshman and alot of the chances through the business school I do not have access to. Attending career fairs and networking has given me minimal success in terms of immediate summer work. What else can I do? My family has no real contacts in terms of networking for business. What programs should I consider and apply for?
