Suburban Kansas City - on the Kansas side. Class of 440 or so. I don’t believe there were any NMF, maybe 2 NMSF and probably in the double digits for Commended Scholars.

Probably 70% went to some kind of college.

Of those that went to college:

~40% University of Kansas
~20% Kansas State University
~15% Some kind of community college
~15% at smaller state schools in KS or MO (Truman State, Emporia, MO State, Wichita State, Rolla, etc)
Remaining 10% were widespread, but no more than a handful at anyone place. From what I remember, I had classmates that ended up at:
NYU (3?)
Fordham
TCU
WashU
SLU
Creighton
Georgetown
BYU
DePaul
Rockhurst
Oklahoma Baptist (something strangely high like 4)
Nebraska

There were acceptances to some more noteworthy schools, but no one went.
I think that Kansas City is somewhat of an oddity compared to most metro areas in terms of the pull that Kansas, Kansas State and Missouri have on residents. While its certainly common for a lot of students to go to their homestate school, it seems as though these schools have a particularly strong pull for kids nearby. It definitely reinforced when those kids graduate and migrate back to Kansas City, marry other alums and then raise their baby Jayhawks, Wildcats and Tigers.

what surprised me was first the number of kids (at a high income school)
who went to a cc. And also, after all the effort, the aps, the money spent,
the small number of kids who went to out of state privates. Only 35 to 40
kids, about the same number who went to trade school, hair school etc.

I have data from last year’s class, but not this year’s, so I’ll use that. We’re a semi-urban (not urban, not suburban) school in Michigan with small graduating classes. Everyone went to some kind of college rather than trade school.

I also have data from last year for DD’s school. Only 18% of the graduating class went to 4 year colleges, 31% to community colleges, 9% to trade/technical school. Of the 4 year the colleges were:

Other than that, most people are going to U of Oregon, Oregon State, and the local community college. There’s this one kid who was a NMF and he’s going to University of Idaho for pretty much free

Everyone goes to the in-state colleges. EVERYONE. Mostly IU, Purdue, or the IU-PU mix campuses.

Everyone that I tell that I want to go out-of-state gives me a weird look. I always tell them “Sorry, there’s more to life than small-town Indiana.” Some people enjoy the country and small towns, but I want a big city and for my major I should go to a big city.
