Which residence hall do most of the freshmen live? I’m applying for housing (kind of late I know) but when I pick a place to house, I’d like to be where most of the other freshman are.
Apply to a hall nearest to your classes that have a great impact on your major.
if you have not yet filled out a housing application, or have a friend who could be a roommate who submitted early, your options will be limited at this time. My OOS son is a junior, and applying to UT was a late decision, so he had not seen the campus or learned about the honors programs in advance. He was accepted mid-February, and was given Jester for housing. His year a lot of kids ended up in supplemental housing to accommodate freshmen. The most desrable dorm is San Jac, but it required a very early sign-up. Jester is home to almost 4000 freshmen, and had at one time the world’s second highest grossing Wendy’s outlet. He was fine living there, and it is next door to Gregory gym. Good luck
There are also some private dorms that might be of interest that are freshman centric. These are probably oversubscribed at the moment, but I’m told the waitlists can be fluid. They run a bit more figure $13-$15K for room and board.
I just signed my housing contract and hope to live in Jester, but I also applied for the BHP, which would house students in the honors quad. How does honors housing factor in since I have’t received my decision (but was accepted to the school)?
Your housing preferences can be changed until July 1, and you’ll know about Honors long before that.
So if I submitted my application in late September (put in the housing application/deposit as well) but haven’t been accepted yet, am I screwed out of good housing?
No, you’re actually in great shape! Room assignments are made based on the date on which a housing application is complete. September is pretty early.
@FloMoMom that’s great to hear! Thanks!
Jester west.
